In the show because Wayne is written to be portrayed as autistic I feel like we see a big aversion to physical touch which like neuro divergence aside makes sense because Wayne has been around so much violence as opposed to affection growing up.
And Sgt. Stephen Geller is so real for the (kind and gentle) way he absolutely reads him in episode 10 because no you are not a barbarian you are made of love
Bc even in episode 1 he's so receptive to it the moment he feels safe with someone
The second time he meets Del he doesn't mind sitting close to her, and she kisses him on the cheek and he smiles, he sits still in the evening when Gail patches up his face, he roughhouses with Orlando on the way home because that's how he shows and receives affection really. All he has is love for other people.
Yesterday I was low key bummed out so I watched Shawn Simmons' interview about Wayne on the official Conan the Barbarian podcast, presumably, to feel better. And then I found out that luccullough was supposed to have a breakup arc and got more bummed out mostly because this reshapes my idea of what post canon could be like,, completely. Like obviously bob's ur uncle world's your oyster write whatever whenever but Word Of God is important 2 me
Anyway I'm halfway through my work day and I've been thinking about this a lot because it's better to think about than work and holy shitballs season 2 has never felt so clear to me... I will write .. one day.. somethinggggg!!!
interview in question is here!
