For a boy his age, he speaks a wisdom beyond his unfettered years. He is refreshing, if anything. With every word, she finds herself cradling her chin, studying even the most minute idiosyncrasy– anything to see what made the man tick.
“ … Then you wish to change it? ” she challenges, looking for the blaze in his eyes that told her it could be true. A bold step to his side told all: that she would have part in this little grassroots upheaval he suddenly deemed necessary. It’s the playful bump of her hip against his own, and arched brow over a frame that gives her own answer.
“ Let us start a revolution then, shall we? ”
After all, following one to kingdom come may prove to be fun.
He is not a man of fire. His is a well of resolution, the enduring mountain. It’s a trait that serves him well, generally -- too quick to action, superseding contemplation, only leads to the wrong decision. A man in a TV, a coma unending... though these things, by letter of the law, have never occurred, their sins hang low. It is at the end of a long road that this resolution finds form. Nameless, and powered by will that has seen a hundred catastrophes thwarted.
“What makes you and I better than anyone else? Opportunity and luck. Blood and circumstance. That we can even march for the core is thanks to nothing more than the pulling of divine strings. We were in the right place at the right time, and we survived.” The cards play out before him -- bent, weathered. They mirror a great fatigue of the soul. Man cannot shoulder the world’s battles evermore.
And after a moment, he bumps his hip back. It hardly spoils the moment.
“I’ve had enough of gods.”
