[ Good Deeds ] — Hope & Lightning
Hope hummed quietly to himself as he set down the two hampers he'd been carrying, one under each arm. It was mid morning and he stood alone in the small laundry room the barracks had to offer, planning to get his laundry done before the majority of those on his floor returned from their training. As a medic, he was not required to attend the majority of these sessions and so quite often found himself alone in the barracks with nothing to do. It was an eerie feeling, one that was only amplified by the cacophony that was to come later that day when people began arriving back. It was a window of opportunity for him to get his basic chores done without getting hassled by fellow soldiers, something that happened almost every single day, regardless of how much he may object.
Today, he had not only his own laundry with him, but also the laundry belonging to the woman whose room was directly next to his own - Lightning Farron. She was, incidentally, also the woman who had saved his life and who had so kindly agreed to help him with his training outside of their required sessions with the rest of their platoon. He had even requested to be transferred into her squad at her behest, as she had said she didn't want him dying when she wasn't around. Truly, it was more than he could have hoped for when he first went to thank her for her actions on their first meeting. That was why he was washing her clothes for her today. She was taking time out of her busy schedule to help him with his training so the least he could do for her was try to give something back.
Hope had separated both of their laundries into different baskets, having taken hers from her room that morning (without actually asking her first, but he had assumed she would be fine with it - after all, he was helping her), and then into piles of both dark and light clothing. He hadn't been surprised to find that Lightning had not done this herself upon discarding said clothing. She didn't seem like the kind of person who would have that much time to spare on things like sorting laundry. He now began taking the washing from the hampers, starting with Lightning's, and placing them in one of the two old washing machines his floor of the barracks had to offer. They made the most horrendous noises when turned on but they cleaned clothing as well as any other. So caught up in this activity, Hope did not notice someone enter the room behind him. He continued to hum quietly under his breath, hands moving slowly and methodically as he worked to complete his task.
