He’d ben planning to go get cleaned up before Hailey got home and definitely not for her to come home and find him bruised, looking like he’d been badly beaten and could hardly move, though that was exactly what had happened.
“I’m okay.” Was all he said in response to her question, sitting up slowly, wincing as he did so. “It’s not as bad as it looks.”
