Charlie Morningstar’s whole world is gone.
Her father is dead. Her mother still hasn’t answered the phone, not even a single goddamned ring. The Seven Sins, usually loud and impossible to avoid, have essentially ghosted her, too grief-stricken to show their faces in Pride.
And Alastor.
Charlie actually doesn’t know where he is. None of them do. The only proof that her former host is still alive is the fact that Husk and Nifty still feel shackled to him. A quiet confirmation that the Radio Demon is somewhere out there, breathing, living, hurting.
He disappeared the moment her father was killed.
But, Charlie can’t blame him. If Vaggie—if the love of her life—died in her arms, she wouldn’t be seen again either. She’d disappear into the deepest corners of Hell, crawl into the cracks between the Rings, let the dark swallow her whole. Hell would be without an heir.
Except now Hell is without a King.
But knowing that doesn’t stop the jealousy. Doesn’t stop the bitterness. Doesn’t stop the voices in the back of her mind asking why Alastor, of all people, get to break?
‘Why not me? Why do I need to be strong?’
Charlie’s the daughter. She’s the one who held the metaphorical crown as it slipped from her dad’s-.
‘Fuck! I can’t even fully say it. I’m so weak.’
She’s the one standing in his place. She’s the one forced to smile through the crack in her chest like everything is fine.
She’s. Not. Fine!
Not since her dad DIED!
Charlie grips her amulet until her hand trembles. If she pretends hard enough, she can feel gem pulsing faintly like her dad’s magic, and every time she touches it, something inside her twists painfully.
‘Vaggie might be right in me doing self-punishments.’
She and Vaggie sprint down the palace halls, boots slapping against marble no one has had time to clean up in decades. The corridors feel even colder now than when she was last here. That moment was when her mom took her and just left without saying goodbye to her dad.
Vaggie keeps glancing at her with that worried look again—the one Charlie hates. The one that says you're slipping, and I don’t know how to stop it. Charlie doesn’t want comfort. She wants answers. She wants her father back. She wants the world that was stolen from her.
They reach the throne room and find Angel Dust and Cherri Bomb flanking an intruder.
An angel.
He’s kinda young-looking. Blond curls, a small gap between his front teeth, his halo crooked and flickering a bit like a dying bulb. His feathers are brittle and filthy, and he shakes every time someone breathes too close to him.
Vaggie’s spear is already in her hand.
Angel Dust shoves the trembling creature forward.
Angel: Found him snoopin’ around the south wall. Said he came lookin’ for you, Princess.
Cherri: And he’s lucky we didn’t just knock his ass out and toss him on the street.
The angel clears his throat, voice quivering.
Abel: Queen Morningstar… I—I’m sorry to bother you. R-really sorry. But I…My name is Abel. Like the son of uhm. Guess that’s not a good thing here but I. I was sent to ask… Heaven has heard that the angels who fell into Hell—th-they’re dead. All of them. S-so I was sent to confirm. Did… did you do something to them?
The room freezes.
Charlie stares at him for a long moment before speaking, her voice low and cold.
Charlie: Me? All they got was what was coming to them.
Abel: T-they’re dead!
Charlie: I don’t know who you are, nor why you think you’re owed anything here. But let me make something very clear, angel. I have people to protect. Demons I won’t neglect. So I’m not taking any fucking chances.
Abel swallows and glances around at the demons staring him down. His wings twitch like he wants to run, but he forces himself to stay put.
And then the truth starts to spill.
Abel: H-Heaven is in chaos. It’s on lockdown. There’s… there’s corruption spreading like mold through the ranks. N-No new souls are arriving. Earth is… it’s frozen. And the higher angels—th-they’ve barricaded themselves inside their own gates.
Vaggie’s eyes widened in shock. She looks around and it seems like she’s not the only one.
Abel: You’ve noticed, right? No new souls have arrived since the battle. Earth has been… paused. The higher choir froze everything. They’re trying to contain the corrupted before it reaches the throne. E-Emily… she’s still fighting. There’s a resistance hiding in the ruins of Heaven. Well, wh-what’s left of it, anyway. They’re trying to stop the rot from spreading.. I-It’s not much… but we’re trying.
Then he drops a bomb shell.
Abel: He… h-he made it back to Heaven. Redeemed. We’ve been trying to-
Cherri: The fuck?!
Charlie’s expression snaps.
Charlie: Are you trying to make me a fool in my own home?
Abel backpedals quickly, shaking his head.
Abel: I’m not lying! I swear I’m not! I—I know how it sounds but-
Cherri: Sounds like bullshit! You guys don’t really believe that, right?
Angel: I mean, we can’t know for sure. Does he even have proof? Hey, Abelline, do you have proof ta show?
Abel panics.
Abel: Not right now! Connection is tricky but I can try and will show you as soon as I can, please.
He begs. Not for his life—Charlie sees that clearly. He’s begging for help.
Abel: I’m risking everything coming down here. I know what my father did. I know what the Exterminations did. I’m not here to defend that. I just—Heaven is dying. And I need— we need—
Charlie: Why should we help you? It’s because of Heaven that my dad is dead. So honestly? I don’t think I owe you anything.
Abel flinches but doesn’t back away.
Abel: I d-don’t expect forgiveness! I don’t expect anything! I didn’t even want to come. I’m not a fighter, I’m not. But, I came for my brother.
The room stills.
Charlie’s eyes narrow.
Charlie: Cain’s not in Hell. I know that much from human stories.
Abel shakes his head frantically, feathers trembling.
Abel: Heaven’s records say Cain fell into Hell without dying, just like Queen Lilith. If he’s here… if there’s even a chance he’s here… I needed to try. I needed to see him again. Just to see if he’s okay. It’s my selfish reason for coming here.
His voice cracks.
Abel: And Archangel Michael… he’s missing. He never returned to Heaven after the battle. The other archangels are holding the gates, trying to contain the corrupted. They’re not killing any demon or angel souls, they’re trying to find a cure. But nothing is working.
A noise echoes from above, the sound of something heavy scraping across the palace rooftop. Charlie and Vaggie exchange a look.
She turns back to Abel, voice filled with ice.
Charlie: You won’t even be able to step outside without being killed. The only reason you’re still breathing is because I made this place a sanctuary for the fallen that is willing to work for us. We have injured former exorcists here who can’t leave. And now that we know Heaven isn’t letting anyone in or out, none of them can go home. So tell me again. What can you possibly offer us?
Abel doesn’t hesitate.
Abel: Archangel Uriel thinks King Lucifer isn’t… gone.
Charlie freezes.
Abel: His thread in the Fates, we can still see it. It’s broken, yeah. But it still exists. When someone dies forever, the thread disappears completely. Sir Uriel thinks… something is wrong. Something we in Heaven can’t trace. There might be clues here, in Hell.
Charlie turns away, done. But before she can take two steps-
Abel collapses to his knees.
Abel: Please! I’ll do anything. I know what my father did was cruel and unforgivable. So I’ll— I’ll go out there right now and let the Root kill me if that’s what it takes to show how desperate we are. I’m not asking you to save Heaven. I’m asking you to help the next angel who comes here begging for their life.
Slowly, Charlie looks down at him. Vaggie sees her face go through a thousand emotions before sighing.
Charlie: Okay.
Abel gasps in relief, eyes lighting. Until Charlie transforms. Her horns curl upward like molten obsidian, eyes multiply, burning red and merciless, there are flames licking through her hair and crown, turning her silhouette into a towering eldritch blaze.
Abel’s breath stutters.
Charlie: If you make one wrong move, you’re done for. Do anything I don’t approve, you’re done for. I could snap my fingers, and you’re done for. Understand?
Abel shakes like a leaf caught in a storm, but he doesn’t move away. Not even an inch.
That, more than anything, seems to satisfy Charlie. She retracts her demonic form, returning to the exhausted queen she was moments before.
She turns to the others.
Charlie: First order of business, then. Nifty, Husk, I need you two to look for Alastor.
There is a beat of silence.
Husk: How exactly would we do that?
Nifty opens her mouth, closes it, opens it again. Even she can’t chirp her way out of the uncertainty hanging in the air.
Vaggie’s brows knit together as she watches Charlie. She sees the flicker of an idea behind her eyes and feels her stomach drop.
Vaggie: Oh no. We are not going there. Can't we just ask Rosie?
Charlie shakes her head.
Charlie: We will. But she’s not enough. Not this time. We need someone with eyes everywhere who can work fast.
Husk: Are you gonna fill me in or what?
Charlie tilts her head, voice flat.
Charlie: If there’s anyone here who is obsessed with Alastor. and has eyes and ears wide enough to find him, it’s Vox.
Nifty: Oooooo. TV bad boy!
Husk groans so loud it echoes.
Husk: Great. Just how I wanted to spend my day.
He turns to Angel dust with a hint of smile
Husk: Ya comin’, legs?
Angel doesn’t miss a beat.
Angel: Always for you, baby. Would loooove to visit V-tower as a free man.
Cherri rolls her eyes and elbows him.
Cherri: Quit flirtin’ in front of the royalty, dumbass.
Angel: They know what they signed up for.

I promise we'll see Al and Luci again! It wouldn't be a Luci centric fic if he's not here
