Small discharge ampule from the Luciteria Science "basic glass bottles" collection - Hydrogen sample

When I figured it was about time to get some normal hydrogen, since I only really had the special ones, I bought a low-pressure ampule from Luciteria.

Though I only have receipts for a medium-sized 10x40mm ampule, like the rest of my discharge ampules, this one came as a tiny ampule in a bottle with the name on it.

Whatever the case, it's seen here held to a plasma globe to make it glow rather faintly.

Carbon density cube from Luciteria - Carbon sample

This 10mm cube of pure graphite represents carbon in Luciteria's density cubes collection.

It was bought as part of Luciteria's 15-piece "student set" of cubes, which includes mostly safe, less-reactive, common elements, at a 15% discount from buying them individually.

Ampule of diluted fluorine from Luciteria - Fluorine sample

Fluorine is the first and most reactive of the halogens - elements missing one electron in their valence shells, causing them to violently rip away electrons from anything it can to fill this gap. Most substances will spontaneously combust in fluorine, including glass (which will stop the other halogens). It's the most difficult of the non-radioactive elements to collect in pure form.

Here, I have an ampule filled with 30% fluorine and 70% helium; the inert helium dilutes the fluorine severely. I'm not clear on the pressure of the gas mixture, but it can't be too high, since the fluorine's pale yellow color isn't present at all.

Even at only 30% concentration, it still wasn't fully tamed; you can see at the tip, where it was flame-sealed, that it attacked the heated glass and frosted it. I'm hoping that there's still some elemental fluorine left, since it looks like it could only, but that's just hope.

You can collect pure fluorine gas at concentrations high enough to see it, if you have a nigh-perfect container; the process is detailed here.

2 gram diamond ampule from Luciteria - Carbon sample

These 10 carats of diamond grains aren't considered gem tier, since they're yellow and opaque (and also too small to cut). They're very sparkly nonetheless.

This exact product (a 15x60mm flat bottom ampule with 2g of diamonds) is no longer available from Luciteria, but there is a 15x35mm round bottom ampule with 1g.

Baggie - Boron sample

Old Luciteria(?) sample that came in a baggie. Since it was unlabelled, I'm only 90% sure it's boron; I bought my other sample to be more sure.

Here's a bottle of very sparkly boron crystals, 1g total. Boron is also available as a reddish-brown amorphous powder, which I haven't been able to get a sample of quite yet.

1g piece from Luciteria - Beryllium sample

I got this piece of beryllium years ago, so long ago that I can't find the receipt for it. I know it's beryllium, and I'm pretty sure it's a 1g piece from Luciteria. It didn't originally come in this bottle, rather loose in a baggie - I put it in there to match.

Luciteria 1g sample - Lithium sample

Lithium is the first of the alkali metals, which are soft and highly reactive - they can explode in water.

Lithium is the least dangerous of its siblings; a solid chunk of it will simply hiss in water. It must be a foil to detonate.

Lithium also rapidly oxidizes, so it must be stored under oil. It's also the lightest metal, so it floats in oil; fortunately, a gram of it completely fills Luciteria's small bottles, so I don't have to worry about that.

This sample, upside down to represent the fact it floats in oil, is planned to represent lithium in my WIP Periodic Table poster:
