sleep was fitful that night. she dreamt of static and fire and ice and cosmic ancients, though they were of no cosmos she would ever recognize.
she dreamt of the Dog Park. it was not her ordeal, but there was a great unbroken circle of hooded figures humming something cold and eternal. the cabinet of greater hooded figures stood at the head of the circle, before the obelisk, intoning in tongues she could never begin to understand.
except somehow she did.
looking around in her dream, Lucy saw that she was part of this circle, that she had become static and fire and ice and cosmic pieces, and at this she woke with a start.
her arm felt fuzzy. must've slept on it funny. she went to rub some feeling into it, but found that it could in fact feel. she meant to gasp at this realization, but found she couldn't.
she couldn't breathe.
she didn't need to.
then it occurred to her that she couldn't see, not how she was used to seeing in any event. she tried to blink, but her face was not her usual face. everything pulsed with--what? color? sound? light? she curled up and covered her head with the blankets with a whine--more static than sound--but still everything pulsed.
even she pulsed, but not with life. not the kind of life she was used to.
Lucy curled up tighter.
"Te̛͝[d͟͟]?́͞" she called out with a staticky whimper. "[T͢͢e]d?"
