Ohhh Imma hop on this headcanon. Remus picks it up from lily, he likes the control that gives him. It requires a steady hand to get the colours to look perfect - you know he's a perfectionist - and it's just what he needs after a bad moon or a nightmare that leaves him shaking. His right hand usually has more coats on as it's requires more concentration. The strong smell of the nail varnish helps block out other things and he can pretend he doesn't have heightened senses
