These are some helpful words for writing that can definitely improve your essay!
When I write my French essays I tend to have this sheet in front of me if I can to make sure I can get as many of these in as possible without repeating myself.
Introductory Remarks - Helpful when beginning a paragraph

These could also mean on one side... on the other side - they're good for contrasting arguments within an essay or paragraph.
