Loughborough Uni in...world!
As you may well have seen, the last few posts on my Loughborough in London blog have been about travelling to and from Stratford to get to various places in England. Whether that is visiting Platform 9 and 3/4 or scenes from iconic movies such as those in James Bond! Once you feel comfortable with journeys like these it may be time for you to explore further. So here are a few ways you can take a holiday abroad, leaving from Loughborough University in London... Stratford International Station is extremely close to the university and luckily there are quite frequent trains to both St. Pancras International (taking 25 minutes) and Dover Priory (which takes 1 hour 30 minutes). From either of these stations you can take a train to Lille, Brussels and Rotterdam meaning European travel is definitely on the cards from LUiL! If, like me, you enjoy plane journeys to start your holiday then you are in luck. Stansted Airport is only a short ride away whether that is by A52 bus or a National Express coach. From Stansted Airport you can get to Turkey, Morocco, Mexico, the United States and many more exotic places around the world. All of these exciting journeys are starting from Stratford, your backyard! So don't delay and plan it today! It will be an adventure you won't regret. If you need any further help planning your trip or want to share an amazing journey you have taken from Stratford I will be happy to talk at anytime. Thanks for reading my latest post and stay tuned for information on my travel plans this summer!

A fascinating, creative economy.
Media and Creative Industries, also referred to as 'the creative economy', encompasses the economic activities that are concerned with the generation of knowledge and information. At the heart of this industry, lies the cultural and creative industries of: arts, culture, business and technology, comprised of the following professions: advertising, architecture, art, crafts, design, fashion, film, music and publishing. After completing a quick Google search I have compiled below, a short synopsis of the Media and Creative Industries to aid those of you who are thinking of pursuing higher education within this sector, or simply curious about this intriguing industry.
According to The Financial Times, the creative industries sector contributes more than £70bn a year to the economy . As an exceptionally vast industry, there has been previous speculation surrounding the frustration regarding the apparent lack of support and attention the creative industries receives from the Government. However, a £16 million pound funding scheme has recently been announced by the Government, which is set to secure the UK’s current position as a world leader in the sector. Furthermore, the Creative Industries Council (CIC) recently unveiled their 'Create UK' strategy at the beginning of July, which identifies five priority areas fundamental to the future success of the creative sector - education and skills; access to finance; infrastructure; intellectual property and international (exports and inward investment). The Create UK strategy outlines a plan aimed at addressing the previous frustration expressed within the industry, by further strengthening the relationship between the creative industries and the government, to enable the UK's creative industries to reach their full potential by 2020.
Following such promising findings regarding this industry, I feel compelled to introduce to you the Institute of Media and Creative Industries at the Loughborough University in London campus opening in 2015. The campus, which will be located at the heart of what was the London Olympics Media Centre during the 2012 Olympic Games, and what is now the International Broadcast Centre and 24h media 'hub' for digital media, creative arts and cultural innovation. At LUiL, the MA in Media and Creative Industries will give students the opportunity to gain an awareness of the current issues and debates in the analysis of media and creative industries, whilst introducing them to current research regarding the economic, social, cultural, political and historical dimensions of the creative industries. Furthermore, it aims to prepare students for future employment in the diverse professional environments within the creative industries, through a combination of independent work and industry exposure.

The girl behind the blog...
Before I give advice, blog further or answer any questions that you may have, I felt it is important to let you know who you would be asking!
I am a Student Ambassador for Loughborough University in London (LUiL) and here I am pictured with my fellow Ambassadors (I am in the middle!)
Here are some questions I have prepared that I hope help you understand a little more about 'the girl behind the blog':
Am I at Loughborough University? Yes, I am an engineering student at Loughborough University who has just finished their second year of study (the time goes so quickly!)
Why did I want to become a Student Ambassador for LUiL? I have loved my time at Loughborough University and would happily tell anyone who asks just how much I have learnt and developed and I haven’t even finished my degree yet! The idea of bringing that quality of teaching to London, the capital and heart of the UK (that happens to be my backdoor when I am not at university), is incredibly exciting and something that I just knew I had to be a part of creating.
What is my best memory in London? I was fortunate enough to be a volunteer at the London 2012 Paralympic Games; I got to meet so many amazing people, but a memory that particularly stands out for me is standing proudly in the centre of the main stadium with my team during our national anthem, surrounded by great athletes and even greater supporters!
How can I help? I am here to let you know about things going on in London, at the university and otherwise, to hopefully get you as excited about the new campus as I am. Any questions are extremely welcome and also, any feedback is more than welcome as well!
I hope you have enjoyed hearing a bit about me and look forward to hearing from you all soon!
LUiL Design Innovation
Being innovative isn’t easy. The word is thrown around a lot these days, given quickly to technology without a second thought. For those who aren’t studying what it means to innovate the concept seems pretty simple, solve a problem with a new method. Yet, currently the term has become recognized as a synonym for ‘invention’.
For a designer, the possibilities are endless. An article published recently said that innovation is about asking the right questions, not the problem solving many of believe it to be. This article links to many ideas and the ideas it proposes are ones I found immensely interesting. When asking questions in regards to design, thinking about the customer is key; questions of usability, marketing and problems are all linked together and must be solved by asking the right questions.
London has previously been named the “design capital of the world” by the New York Times and its hard not to see why our capital city deserves such a prestigious title. With a deep and complex history, beautifully designed landscapes and wonderful Design Museum the city is a magnetic place for designers to be.
With LUiL launching in 2015, the Institute for Design Innovation hopes to build on blending design skills with studies in management and enterprise to help the next generation of designers to be ready to ask better questions.
Loughborough’s Design School is world leading. Place something that good into the centre of the world most creative city and that’s a combination you can’t beat.
