Luiz Eça Y La Familia Sagrada, "Homen Da Sucursal/Barravento" (1970)
guessimdumb:
What do a bunch of Brazilian musicians do while they are hiding out in Mexico to escape the Brazilian military? They recorded this wild tropicalia influenced album which did not even get released for years and never in Brazil.
An outstanding, eclectic album: jazz, samba, tropicalia, funk, Beach Boys-style harmonies. The original poster put up "Yemele," which is an amazing song, but after listening a couple time this morning I've decided I like this one, the opener, best. Foregrounding the piano and having the left hand double the bass line is a brilliant choice. I'm especially crazy about the section from 4:50-5:40 - those Pet Sounds harmonies with chord changes Brian Wilson wouldn't dare to do, into straight pulsing with Keith Moon tom explosions, into classic funky samba. Unreal. [via lestresorscaches]
