Let’s cry together
how do you ship Luka and Hyuna? what's your interpretation of them that is different from the fandom's?
okay maybe it's finally time i talk about lukahyu because i have so many disjoined and incoherent thoughts about them that i haven't managed to put into, like, digestible essay format, and also you're the third anon to be like my brother in christ please stop vagueing about it and get it off your chest lmao. i will speak my truth (it's not that revolutionary. i'm just a hater)
first of all, what really sold me on lukahyu was a tweet that went "hey have we considered that one possible interpretation of a lot of the flashbacks from all-in suggest that luka assaulted hyuna when they were both at anakt" based off of this frame:
and (paraphrasing) the way hyuna seems absolutely KOed every time she thinks about luka. with real fear in her eyes. shaking and bent over, sweating like she's having a flashback. these are all very indicative of something. we won't know until weige, i think, exactly why the thought of luka gives her the shakes. but oh man, even if you don't subscribe to the luka cocsa perpetrator angle it's pretty clear that whatever she has going on with him is traumatic in nature. which i enjoy immensely!!
the main fandom interpretation of lukahyu (hyuluka....really...) is girlboss hyuna x waifish wifeguy luka. heavy are the hips that wear the strap, etc etc. i don't agree with this and never have because luka is, frankly, not a pushover simp like that. he says about hyuna that her rebellious activities are "pitiful" and that "if you were in my arms, your safety would’ve been guaranteed" which are the statements of an insane yandere and not a wet blanket wife guy. sorry.
(hater voice) also i think the specific hetero ship dynamic of "girlboss with strap and twink wifeguy" is both overdone, annoying, and personally boring as hell to me. sorry for being heteronormative or whatever but i really enjoy luka's extremely, like, male condescension towards hyuna. his love is so grossly possessive and this interests me immensely.
also hyuna isn't really a girlboss type character. the recent comic backs me up here. she's kind of this, like, socially awkward dork with an alcohol problem and a big empty smile that hides the shaking and desperate fear in her eyes. she wants to save people, she wants to be good, she wants to build something beautiful and true but she's also, fundamentally, too weak to do it on her own. and she knows this. she hates herself for it. she begs mizi not go save till and hates herself for that weakness, for wanting so badly to save mizi that she'd try to stop her, and she hates herself for not stopping her properly. she's much more complicated than the 1-dimensional girlboss archetype and i'm sincerely hoping weige will explore that more.
like frankly hyuna is the one with pathetic loser meow meow energy and luka's, like, this sadistic empty shell of a man who's been engineered to be the untouchable prince of alienstage. god knows he's probably violated her. adding into this mix is my personal headcanon that luka killed her little brother out of a strange jealousy of "i want to be her little brother"/"i want her to only look at me like that" and you have this. perfect storm. of noncon, pseudoincestuous desire and obsessive love.
luka is the stumbling block of hyuna's life. she has to overcome him in order to survive. i have some hopes/headcanons that i can't wait to see either confirmed or utterly dashed in weige:
hyuna's missing leg is luka's fault in some way
weige will end with luka dying to save her
luka did, in fact, do something horrible to hyuna
he has spent the last year confused and perplexed and obsessed with her in equal measure :]
in conclusion i think lukahyu is far darker than the prevailing fanon interpretation but since this is alnst, we'll really have to wait and see what happen in weige.
forgive yourself. again and again, endlessly
