Standing by his father’s desk Damien sorted through the mail placing anything that belonged to his father on his desk for him to read once he returned home from work. Celina, meanwhile, sat in her room drawing in her notebook while Dax slept beside her, the wolf having grown ever more protective of the girl over the years. With the last of the mail sorted Damien walked to the bottom of the stairs, “Celina, where do you want to go to dinner?” he asked.
“I don’t know.” She yelled back while scribbling in her notebook, and then biting her lip while she focused on her drawing.
“How did I know she would say that...” Damien muttered under his breath with a sigh before shaking his head, his mouth opening to respond to her when a sudden knock came at the door making him stop. His attention turned to the door for a moment and then back up the stairs towards Celina, “Well think on it!”
Making his way across the living room he set the remaining mail on a side table before opening the door. Standing on the front stoop was an older man, and behind him a young man and woman. Damien’s brow furrowed, last he knew they weren’t expecting any guests, “Hello... what can I do for you?”
The older gentleman looked Damien up and down as a smile graced his face, “You must be Damien. Wow, I haven’t seen you since you since you were a baby. You’re all grown up.”
“I’m sorry, who are you?” The confusion on Damien’s only grew.
“Oh, forgive me.” His smile widened into a grin with a chuckle, “I guess you wouldn’t recognize me, I’m your uncle Elijah, your father’s brother.” He bowed his head before turning to the two behind him and pointing at the younger man, “And this is my son, Lukas.”
Lukas gave a grin of his own to match his father’s and waved his hand, “What’s up, cousin?”
Elijah then turned to point at the woman, “And my daughter, Victoria.”
She barely looked up at Damien giving him a nod before Lukas cut in, “She’s a little shy, but she prefers to go by Vicki.”
“Umm.. okay.” Bewilderment etched across Damien’s face as he was unsure how to take this information. Were they lying? He had never even heard of them, his father never mentioned his brother. “I don’t really know what to say.”
“It must be a lot to take in I know, a new family you have never met before. I don’t expect you to welcome us with open arms.” Elijah chuckled nervously, “I was actually hoping to speak with your father, may we come in?”
“He’s not here at the moment, he won’t be back for a few more hours.” Damien answered.
Just then Celina came bouncing down the stairs, jumping the last few to land, Dax following behind her. “I know where we should go to eat!” She exclaimed drawing the attention of everyone at the door which she quickly noticed and the strangers at the door she blinked a few times. Walking up she looked at the three at the front door, and then up at her father, “Who are they, dad?”
“Oh, these are..” He paused unsure what to say for a moment, part of him wanted to lie given he wasn’t sure if they were who they said they were. When it came to family he didn’t want to disappoint Celina, she had so few family members he didn’t want to get her hopes up only to rip that hope away.
Seeing Damien’s hesitation Elijah spoke up, “We are family members from a distant land, perhaps you have heard of the floating city? Dalaran? And who might you be?”
At the mention of a floating city Celina’s eyes lit up, a city up in the sky? She couldn’t believe it. “Really? Oh, and I’m Celina. Why don’t you come in? I can give a tour of the place and you can tell me more about Dalaran!” She backed away to allow them to enter.
Elijah then turned to gaze at Damien for permission to enter who took in a deep breath and nodded as he too stepped aside and gestured for them to come in. He then stepped in followed by Vicki and then Lukas, all three gazing around the home as they took it in.
“This is our living room, with grandpa’s work area right over there,” Celina pointed over at the open area with a desk and a bay window behind it, “and then over that way is the kitchen, and then upstairs is our bedrooms.” She explained for the three of them before reaching out and petting the giant wolf that never left her side, “And this is Dax. He’s a good boy.”
“Hmm. Not a bad place you got here.” Lukas said as he turned to look at Damien, “So, uh, I noticed you speak with a Gilnean accent.. gotta admit it’s pretty cool having a Gilnean cousin. Are you a..”
“Yeah.” Damien cut him off before he could finish the question knowing what he was gonna ask.
“Badass. Kind of jealous.” Lukas nodded, “Then again I can use magic fairly well so I have that going for me.”
“That’s all you got.” Vicki finally spoke up taking a jab at her brother while gazing around the living room.
“That’s all I need, sis.” Lukas retorted with a smirk on his lips.
“Wait! You can cast magic??!” Celina suddenly cut in, her eyes getting wide looking at Lukas and moving towards him. “That’s so cool!”
“You bet I can, want to see some magic?” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a gold coin, “Okay, see this?” Showing her the coin he watched as Celina blinked in confusion before closing his hand and clapping them together, he then pulled them apart to show that the coin had disappeared before reaching back behind her ear to pull out the coin.
“That’s not magic, that’s just a stupid trick!” Celina protested with a frown.
“Maybe so, but what about the arcane familiar behind you?” Lukas said with a smile as behind Celina formed a small magical entity made of arcane.
Turning around Celina’s mouth fell open, “Whoa!” She looked back at Lukas and then the familiar, moving closer to it she couldn’t help but smile, “It’s so cute. What is it?” She cooed as she reached out to poke it, her finger going through the familiar’s amorphous body, and a sudden jolt ran up her finger making her pull it back. “Oh, did that hurt it?”
“No,” Lukas laughed, “But how would you like it if someone poked you in your belly when you just met them? It’s my arcane familiar, it helps me with my day to day tasks and such at the Kirin Tor.”
“That’s so cool.” Celina watched the familiar as it looked around, moving around taking in the new area it was in before it got close to Dax causing him to growl, “Dax, be nice.” The words came out in a commanding tone making the wolf’s ears pin back for a second as he sat down by her side. “So what else can you do? What other kind of magic spells can you cast?”
While Celina was enthralled with Lukas ability to utilize magic; Damien, Elijah, and Victoria moved to sit down. Damien taking a seat on the lone chair while the other two sat on the couch.
“I’m sure you have many questions, so ask away.” Elijah smiled and let out a long exhale awaiting any of Damien’s queries.
