Lakota Lacrosse Organization

If only I could say that I had one coach who made a difference in my life.  I can say more than that. I have the entire Lakota Lacrosse Organization to thank.

I was born a below elbow amputee. Only having one hand made some sports more challenging than others for me.  In elementary school I joined a pee wee football team. I could count on my one hand how many times I actually played in a game.  The local youth football organization never gave me an opportunity to play and improve as a player. I was a frustrated kid who just wanted to play football.

And then one fall day after a pretty long day of sitting on the bench I met Mr. Broderick. Mr. Broderick was representing the Lakota Lacrosse Organization. He was handing our information and answering question about lacrosse itself and the organization. I remember how he spoke to me, not like a kid with a disability but a kid who wanted to play a game. He encouraged me to give lacrosse a try so I signed up that day.

I have had many coaches during my years as a player in the organization and all of them have left me with a positive experience. They all treated me just like my teammates. They helped me improve my game and gain confidence on and off the field. I came into the Lakota Lacrosse Organization as a frustrated kid and I will leave as a Captain of the Lakota West Varsity Lacrosse Team.
