Luke Hemmings x Female Reader — “I’m Scared I’ll Never Sleep Again” Inspired (Same Room)
The room was quiet. Too quiet. You lay on your side, staring at the faint glow of streetlights slipping through the blinds, tracing soft lines across the walls. The city outside never really slept—but somehow, you still couldn’t.
Beside you, Luke was there. Close enough that you could feel the warmth of him through the sheets. Close enough that if you reached out, your fingers would brush his arm. And still—you couldn’t sleep.
You shifted slightly, pulling the blanket tighter around yourself. Your thoughts wouldn’t stop. They hadn’t all night. Every time you closed your eyes, your mind filled the silence—too loud, too fast, too much. It didn’t matter that he was right there. It didn’t matter that you weren’t alone. It still felt like something was off. Like your chest wouldn’t settle.
You let out a quiet breath, trying not to wake him.
“Hey.”
Your eyes flicked open. Of course he was awake. Luke Hemmings shifted beside you, his voice low and rough with sleep. “You okay?”
You hesitated. “Yeah,” you whispered.
He didn’t respond straight away. Then, softer—“You’re not.”
You swallowed, staring at the wall. “I can’t sleep.”
A pause. “Again?”
“Yeah.”
You heard the faint rustle of sheets as he turned onto his side, facing you now. “What’s going on in your head?” he asked gently.
You let out a small, tired laugh. “Everything.”
He didn’t push. Just waited.
“It’s like… even when I’m here, with you, my brain won’t shut up,” you admitted quietly. “And I don’t know how to turn it off.”
Another pause. “You feel it in your chest?” he asked.
You nodded faintly. “Yeah.”
“Like it won’t slow down?”
“Exactly.”
The mattress shifted slightly as he moved closer. Not sudden. Not overwhelming. Just enough. His hand found yours under the blanket, fingers lacing together gently. “Hey,” he murmured. “I’m right here.”
Your grip tightened slightly without thinking. “I know.”
“Then stay with me for a second, yeah?”
You nodded, even though your eyes were already closing again. “Breathe in,” he said quietly.
You followed. “Slow.”
You exhaled. “That’s it.”
His thumb brushed softly over your knuckles—absent, grounding. “Still too loud?” he asked.
“A little.”
“That’s okay.”
You turned your head slightly, finally looking at him. Even in the dim light, you could see the concern in his expression. “I hate this,” you whispered.
“I know.”
“I don’t even feel tired anymore. Just… stuck.”
He shifted a little closer again, his voice softer now. “Come here.”
You didn’t hesitate. You moved into him, your head resting against his chest, his arm wrapping around you instinctively. There. That felt—better. Not fixed. But better.
“I wish I could just switch it off,” you murmured against him.
His hand moved slowly along your arm, steady and calming. “You don’t have to,” he said. “Just let it slow down.”
You listened to his heartbeat. Steady. Consistent. Real.
“I keep thinking I won’t sleep,” you admitted. “Like what if I just… can’t?”
“You will,” he said softly. “You always do.”
“But what if—”
“Hey.”
His voice was gentle, but it stopped you. “You don’t have to figure that out right now.”
A pause. “Just stay here.”
Your breathing started to match his without you realising. In. Out. In. Out.
“Better?” he asked quietly.
“Yeah,” you whispered.
A small silence settled between you. This one wasn’t heavy. It was warm. Safe.
“I’m not going anywhere,” he added, almost under his breath.
Your fingers curled slightly into his shirt. “I know.”
Another pause. Then, softer—“Try to sleep.”
You closed your eyes again. This time, the noise in your head didn’t disappear. But it didn’t feel as overwhelming. Because he was there. Holding you. Keeping you grounded.
And slowly—without even realising when it happened—your body gave in. Your breathing evened out. Your grip loosened.
And for the first time that night—you fell asleep. Right there, beside him.
