The Umbrella Academy OC: Luke Rogers

Luke is 7 the first time he sends someone into a mental hospital. 

It hadn’t been on purpose, but the man his mother had been seeing was well past being a prick that day and Luke was tired of him. It was a moment in time when he’d wished his dad had stayed after his mother’s unusual pregnancy, the moments came and went often, more so when the “boyfriends” his mom brought around would start acting up. This one, Mark he thinks his name was, was a lot worse than the others in the way that he would beat his mother for getting pregnant. So naturally, when Luke came home to his mother nearly dead in a pile of her own blood clutching at her round stomach, he’d lost it. 

The anger was so strong, coming up from a place where he’d locked it all away to keep from using his abilities, that the man fell to the ground in tears pleading for Lucas to stop. 

He didn’t.

When Martha Rogers gives birth to a baby boy on October 1st, along with 42 other women around the world, she’s unprepared and finds herself alone when her boyfriend abandons her. Lucas grows up in a house filled with anger, regret, and stress, so it doesn’t take long for him to find out he can make people’s fears come to life when he’s angry enough. 

It started in school when classmates would make fun of him for giving boys in his class flowers, because that’s what you do when you like someone, unless you’re also a boy apparently. One moment they were laughing and pointing at him and the next they were yelling and crying over something only they could see. That had been the first, but certainly not the last time, in which the switch in his emotions triggered his abilities.

At 22 he discovers the effect drugs can have on his emotions, the best by far being that can make him so happy that his powers are nothing but a distant memory. Although they had their downsides (like his mother and younger sister cutting ties with him) he doesn’t quit; instead he finds his way from Australia to the U.S. where it’s dangerously easy to get your hands on drugs. He just as quickly finds himself in a rehab facility where he meets Klaus Hargreeves and romance blossoms.

It goes the way any romance between two junkies goes; on and off, unhealthy, and horribly. It lasts a few years until they part ways and never speak again until the death of Klaus’ father breaks the news and Luke decides to reach out and give his condolences. He really shouldn’t have though. 

Seeing as he’s now drawn in to the mess that is helping prevent the apocalypse while also avoiding being killed by two freaks in masks.
