as of 4/16, here is everyone confirmed in the hbo harry potter cast: in light of literally everything going on in the world at the moment, especially surrounding jk rowlings extremely violent rhetoric toward the trans community and trans women especially, as well as her other nazi views, these actors knowingly signed themselves over to a series that sends money directly to her to directly fund these violent and disgusting organizations.

remember these names, boycott their works, do not engage positively with them whatsoever, MAKE THEM LISTEN. shame on them until the end of time.

Just saw the announcement of some of the official cast of HBO Harry Potter series and I’m so…concerned? Angry? Worried? Disappointed?

It’s so hard to describe cause it’s not bad but it’s not good???

I think the one that’s really the worse is a black guy playing Severus Snape. They really just made the Marauders have a racist undertone. Like they weren’t extreme good people to begin with (they changed) but now it’s just even WORSE. Because they do tease Snape on his appearance and now that he’s black…just no. Absolutely not.

But I do lowkey fuck with the guy who is supposed to play Quirrell. Lowkey looks like the original.

Also who THE FUCK are these actors? I feel so bad cause I never heard of them until this.

And and SHOW ME MY HARRY, RON, AND HERMONIE. I remember seeing something about them but is that like official?

Idk I’m still rooting for this series to show more stuff than they did in the movie but the casting is just not it rn. I’ll need to see a trailer to get a good feel tbh.

Okay lowkey seems like some people are confused so let set the record straight. I like Snape. Do I agree with what happened to him? No no I do not. But there will now be a racists undertone in Harry Potter. Maybe me saying “with the Marauders” threw people off. But it’s true. It will be there but it will also be there with the franchise as a whole. And that’s something that needs to be addressed. Race CAN change a characters arc and some SOME people need to also understand that. I can not stress enough how I feel about this situation but please don’t downplay the way I feel based on the way others feel. That makes you the part of the problem as well.

I understand HBO promo campaign gonna treat Quirrell like regular background character so new fans/kids don’t expect him to be the villain, I get it, BUT WHERE IS HE I WANT TO SEE LUKE THALLON 😭

some hamlet thoughts…

i think concept-heavy shakespeare productions can be so hit or miss but when they hit they’re SO good and hamlet definitely hit.

i’ve had a titanic fixation since i was like eight so this felt like it was made for me. literally gasped at the 14 april 1912 date. the movement of the stage (which was built like a ship) was so bloody cool and led to some really interesting staging choices. it made the whole play feel a lot more dynamic and urgent. also was obsessed with the edwardian costuming naturally.

and the performances !!! luke thallon as hamlet was superb. he brought such an interesting energy to the character, it was v refreshing in comparison to other productions i’ve seen over the years. i’ll definitely be on the lookout for more of his work in the future. and jared…. loml. just absolutely brilliant. that one review in the guardian that said he exudes “sexual and political ruthlessness” ….. YEAHHH. but he also has this quiet torment to his performance that is so delicious, for lack of a better word. i hope he continues to do a lot more theatre work because he is truly such a star on the stage.

ALSO it was funny !! really great timing and delivery from the cast as well. i didn’t expect to laugh as much as i did. AND the sword-fighting!!!! so good.

just overall a really solid production and if you’re nearby you should definitely try to see it while you can :)
