Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha's Friendship and Bond
It’s 12 AM and I’m thinking about how Luke Thompson always praises and encourages Yerin Ha in every interview, telling the world how beautiful, gorgeous, talented, and incredible she is. He even tells reporters (The Hollywood Reporter), "There's so many things I love about Yerin". At the same time, he always reminds her to be proud of herself because she really is that amazing (Buzzfeed UK interview for Part 2).
He knows Yerin has self doubts, but he also often mentions that she has this inner confidence and calmness that even helps calm him down (Hits Radio UK Interview). From all of this, it’s clear that Luke knows Yerin really well, and Yerin has confirmed that too (Variety Interview). And it’s the process of how he got to know her so well, and how she got to know him too, all going back to the My Cottage filming that Yerin always brings up as her favorite.
Yerin shared that she decided to be an open book with Luke right away during their "almost two week summer camp". She told him everything, her dreams, aspirations, and fears. She was honest and vulnerable, they had deep conversations, and even shed a few tears along the way (Paris Premiere Interview with British Vogue). And the way both of them still remember those exact moments so vividly, like they mentioned at their last press tour stop in London (Estadao Media interview).
Yerin is right, this first filming period really parallels Benedict and Sophie getting to know each other at My Cottage. But I would also add that those Lukerin moments reflect Benophie’s feelings of being seen and accepted for who they are, which we see again in later scenes like the masquerade ball, the conservatory scene, the hug before the bathtub scene, and the hug before the Queen’s Ball.
Luke once said in an interview, "It means that you’ve got a lot of honesty coming your way, which makes it very difficult not to be honest back with Yerin." (Town & Country Interview). And those words instantly remind me of the iconic “Will you not wade out deeper with me?” line, because that is when Benedict starts opening up to Sophie too.
So even though we know Lukerin are very close friends, aka 친한 친구, I feel like their bond is already almost as deep as Benophie’s. I don’t know.... it’s just so beautiful, istg ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
And I think the reason Luke always answers "Yerin" when he is asked about his number one takeaway or best memory from filming Season 4 is because from the very first day, Yerin gave him everything emotionally. And he really values that. Over time, their bond just kept growing stronger because they stayed open with each other, like both of them always had access to each other’s hearts. In the end, every moment every day of those 10 months became about each other, even during the long press tour days.
I’m genuinely so happy for them and grateful, because their deep connection created such insane chemistry for Benophie. They lived up to "the most legendary bridgerton couple" title based on the books.
Lastly, I’ve been in a lot of fandoms, and there is probably only one other connection that has felt this deep to me. So yeah, what Luke and Yerin have is really rare, and I truly hope they protect and keep it forever. They are my soulmates.
