im bored so I'm gonna talk about how the Splatoon main characters fit into the fool's journey as defined by tarot's major arcana
for reference, every agent has been The Fool at some point (neo 3 is the fool now), so across the board I'm going to describe each character at their most recent appearance. got it? good.
Cap'n 3: The Strength. Taking a backseat from official agent work and being promoted to the lead of the NSS, the Cap'n has moved from being the Chariot to now leading the new generation (neo agent 3) in their quest in ROTM. While the two never directly interact in game, those who have played Splatoon 1 up to 3 recognize their old playable character and the experience gained from being a fan of the series, which is then "passed down" to Neo 3. The Cap'n has accepted that they are no longer the main character, but they can still teach the new gen some old tricks.
Agent 8. The Moon. Uncertainty and the unknown are pretty much 8's defining characteristics. In both the Deepsea Metro and the Spire of Order, 8 is always there as a mirror of the player's own investigation and discovery of these unfamiliar worlds, through the eyes of our plucky amnesiac. However, rather than be consumed by anxiety and doubt, 8 has always pulled through and fought till the very end, finding the truth that lies on the other side.
(Agent 4 could be the Chariot but depressingly little is known about their character to say for sure.)
Cap'n Cuttlefish: The Hierophant. He's the last remaining member of the original Squidbeak Splatoon, whose victory was directly responsible for the establishment of Inkling supremacy in the modern day. Although he's quite old now, he bore witness to the development of the surface under Inkling rule, and is a living relic of what was needed to get them there. This used to blind him, creating prejudice against the Octarians, but he has since learned better. Good for him.
Callie: The Star. Does any other character radiate quite as bright as she does? Despite everything that's happened, every crack that's appeared in her armor, she still wears the smile and carries that bubbly, energetic personality wherever she goes. May her light never wane.
Marie: The Hanged Man. This may seem like a strange pick, but Marie has lost much over the course of all three games. First, her connection to her cousin after the infamous first FinalFest, then her cousin in a literal sense when she was kidnapped, and then her original career after dropping out of music for five years. Marie's desperation in retrieving Callie could have easily mutated into a perverted, unending desire to make things as they were, but Marie still manages to find peace with life and everything it throws at her. Like a mountain against the ocean, it'll take a lot to completely wear her down.
Pearl: The Magician. She makes shit shake. 'Nuff said. She used to be the reverse Magician due to her headstrong personality creating a rift between all of her would-be collaborators, but finding Marina helped mellow her out while also redirecting her passion more effectively. And now she's living her best life, makin' shit shake. 'Nuff said.
Marina: The High Priestess. If Pearl is the what, then Marina is the how. The more patient and knowledgeable of the two, she can create anything she can put her mind to - but lacked the reason for it. Before, underground, she was doing what she was told by a dictator. On the surface, with Pearl by her side, there is reason to experiment and put her own voice into what she creates (see: Shifty Stations). It's a miracle that fate put these two together, because they bring out the best in one another.
(btw Pearl and Marina as one unit represent the Lovers. I shouldn't have to explain why.)
Shiver: The Devil. Money, money, money. If not for their theatrical attitude, Shiver is most certainly defined by their love for cold, hard cash. Thankfully, they have Frye and Big Man to care for so that they are not utterly consumed by their materialistic greed, but it's still very prominent.
Frye: The Chariot. This may seem a bit ironic, considering her Splatfest win/loss ratio, but Frye is the most self-driven character in the series. She sees it, she goes for it, and nothing will stop her until she gets it. Very in tune with her own heart, her resolve never wavers. Stay out of her path or you'll get trampled.
Big Man: The Temperance. When your two best friends have such strong personalities, someone has to be the mediator with a clear head. Though he pokes fun at his fellow performers, and despite everything they put him through, he remains the rock of the team and holds everyone down with his even temperament and excellent production. Seriously, Big Man is a wizard in FL.
DJ Octavio: The Emperor (reversed, then upright). Losing the war really fucked with Tavi, because he in turn created an underground eugenicist military complex where he alone serves as the ruler. While it's easy to understand what drove him down this path, his obsession with revenge (motivated by a very real power crisis) warped his intentions and turned his actions to malice. However, by the end of ROTM, he's had a "redemption" of some sort...or so I'd like to believe.
Tartar: The Sun (reversed). Being abandoned by your creator for 10,000 years really messes with your head. Quietly observing the new humans evolve into creatures are all too similar for flooding the world in the first place, it's no surprise that Tartar believed that the only solution was to start over. He was blinded by hatred, reaching false enlightenment, only to realize his mistake too late in his final moments. Evolutionary progress cannot be stopped, and fishkind are not humans, similar as they may be. They deserve the right to develop their own culture, just as humans had.
Mr. Grizz: The Tower (reversed). Being the last surviving mammal really sucks! But instead of accepting the facts as they were, Grizz aimed to "fix" the mammalian extinction problem. He built an empire by exploiting Inklings to hunt the Salmonids, hiding behind his riches and developing his plan in total secrecy. However, although the Tower promises protection, the violent storm will always force its inhabitants out to face the world as it is - or perish. And Mr. Grizz forever floating in space is proof of that fact.
bonus:
Smollusk: Tartar but baby. those octoling engineers are fucked up, man
Iso Padre: The Moon (reversed). basically a constant reminder of what 8 could become if they don't get off this goddamn subway. nothing more than a husk with no memories, riding off to no destination.
Sheldon: The NERD
Judd: The Judgement. it's in the name, man. he's also witnessed the development of fishkind from beginning to end and is revered as a god for his power to always judge accurately. what a goat
Lil' Judd: The Death (reversed). Seeking to leave his older clone's shadow, he aimed to kill the parts of himself that would leave him mirroring Judd. But now, as the new shadow leader of Grizzco, Lil' Judd is completely unrecognizable, blinded by his hatred for his genetic superior. Just what is that little guy planning...?

if you read this far then gimme a fist bump. thanks for reading

i pray that i remain humble for the entirety of my art career
it really be the smallest comments on my stuff that make my day fr
I'm not a big account, i may never be a big account, but if someone else can resonate with the stuff I'm making, mutual or stranger, that's good enough for me
it's not like i draw for an audience anyway. i draw for me
side order thoughts day 2.5
8 out of 12 palettes complete
side order (what could have been) is kinda mid but side order (what we ultimately got) is an undeniably fun, addicting, and fresh new take on the splatoon formula that i can only hope is expanded upon more
real shit tho if there's anything in splatoon that would benefit from updates the most it'd be side order
this gamemode's approach to storytelling is dogwater but everyone already knows that by now
the music is some of the best in the entire series only rivaled by like octo expansion i guess...the new 8ball/infinity ball music is just heavenly and the boss music is all top NOTCH
pearl drone is broken in a way that makes the game less fun but thankfully its optional
pearlina <3 <3 <3
acht is boring why are they even here outside of bait
i have a very very long list of things i want in side order 2 tho, blame hades
The list
dont make double damage the standard thats dumb
i wish the three sections of the tower had unique enemies instead of throwing like a million of them at us towards the top
MORE BOSSES!! PLEASE!! WHY ARE THERE ONLY THREE
overlorder is a piece of cake make him like a pain of the ass on the rematch
there should be forced challenge floors that disrupt the 5 main modes that only happen every other run
i want minibosses. good ones
risky rewards is a good idea but i want it to be expanded to have active DEBUFFS you can pick to boost your multiplier too (such as like making all enemies stronger, increasing the odds of danger floors, etc.)
more plot. please. more plot on replays. beating smollusk to get like 3 fuckin lines of dialogue that pretty much "uh huh huh u gotta beat me again to get the rest" its just UGHHHHHH
achievements? for like dumb shit. like "no vending machines" or "only zones floors" and stuff like that
why is the hub world so barren there's nothing to do except talking to 2 npcs which are just shops. put some other stuff in there
please give us a way to influence what chips we get in a run without having it tied to the weapon we use...
nerf luck. get rid of the get off me discs. they're broken especially with upgrades. yes its a choice but its a dumb choice
TIMED CHALLENGES! PLEASE!
PLEASE!
PLEAAAAAAAAAAAASE!
overall its like a 7/10 package but also the most fun ive had in splatoon in...years? i want more of it
ykw, i don't think the timing of giving my co-collaborator my Discord and the news with predstrogen was coincidental
not like in a "clearly some divine intervention has occurred" but more of in a "man. no matter where i go social media is always gonna be shit"
it's a shame because i really do like this site (sometimes) but it's always some bullshit with the management that makes me question if I should even still be on here
Twitter has the Musk, AO3 did some wack Zionist shit, and now Tumblr's CEO is harassing trans women of his own volition, as well as straight up nuking accounts. mind you she did not get banned for the "car with explosive hammers" comment, it was before that
1. I’m sorry about your friend just cutting contact for no reason
2. How do you get inspirations for your designs or ideas?
3. Do you need another art buddy (half joking here and half being serious)
it's whatever, shit happens
subconsciously, it's prolly because I just watch and read a lot of cartoons and comics and stuff, way before I knew I wanted to be an artist. but in the process, I usually create ideas for the purpose of serving a greater narrative, and what would be cool/interesting to serve said narrative. sometimes it's reactionary (i.e. making my version of Agent 8 not an agent because I think it has more creative and interesting narrative implications), sometimes it's based on metaphor, sometimes it's based on personal experience and experiences! honestly, I think I often take too direct an approach to these ideas so im tryna find ways to spice it up haha
elaborate on half-joking....never not open to new moots tho
