I drew some rough head designs and posted them on my Twitter to gauge interest in which Aterians I should bring to life and these 3 were the most picked.
Udon is working at a popular noodle cart in the city.
Ink is a very old fellow who works in the library at the university.
I did some slight tweaking Hagu and Key’s pics so I decided to repost them with the newest boy, Astero the rookie Lumimancer! He’s the latest addition to Hagu’s Party.
Astero, being relatively young, has become a prodigy in Lumimancy. And though he is very skilled, often his drive to push himself and become better can be dangerous. With his staff at his side and his mastery over light energy, Astero will be very helpful on their adventures.
Below you can read more about Atertarians and Lumimancy.
Astero is a race known as Atertarians. Light eating, ageless, sexless beings that use their long life spawn to establish trade routes and learn as much as they can about the world. One of their biggest achievements is Condensed energy. Using the power of the mountain in the city of Col’lor, these brilliant minds brought modern conveniences to the continent.
These dark creatures use light to convert into energy, a meal could consist of sitting by a candle for a some time. But on the other hand, places that are very bright can cause some discomfort to Atertarian, as its the equivalent to over eating. Generally while traveling they wear robes during the day to decrease the amount of passive light they absorb. Atertarians can live entirely off light if they wanted to, but as they interacted with the other people of the world they acquired a taste for foods which they can also use as fuel. Some of their favorite meals also glow!
Atertarian usually have long arms, long torsos, and short legs with their skin being smooth and somewhat stretchy. They can slight distort their bodies but doing it for too long can cause discomfort. Gradually changes however, will slowly change their form. If an Atertarian wishes to adjust their form they can slowly do so, making it their new “natural” form. They have used this ability to better fit into the roles given to them, places they live or just to better express themselves. Most of the time, their forms take on a reptile or avian like appearance. Skin color is mainly very dark, but is tinted the color of the light they consume the most of. Some even keep a light of the color they want to be in thier rooms. These unique abilities makes for Atertarians of all sorts of colors, shapes and sizes.
At their very core lies a heart. A crystalline structure housing the soul or their very being. It’s location in the body varies from person to person, but usually found in their chest, head or torso. If they are injured, their heart is able to regenerate cuts or even lost limbs. The heart can heal itself if damaged but its a very slow process that some might not make it through. Their innate ability to heal is what lead to the study of Lumimancy.
Lumimancy is the study of using their light energy in a usable form for both healing and combat practices. Its a relatively new practice that is under close study and supervision. They hope to find a new way to use this unique power to better the world. Healing being the first, in hopes to later make technology powered by it.
Since Lumimancy using their very life essence, prolonged heavy use can lead to some side effects. In Astero’s case, it has caused him to be much shorter than those around him. Generally, Atertarians grow larger as they get older. Growing very quickly as they are born and then slowing down after the first 50 years or so. So it might look that someone who is 250 years old would look about the same size as someone who is 200 years old.
This is a new race that I’ve been working on for a long time. If you have any questions or critiques please feel free to ask somewhere!
