slowly reaching the end of second year law school, making my study schedules for finals. on some days, i fall back into the bad habit of comparing myself to my peers and classmates, but i stop and think about how i compare to myself at the very beginning of law school (lost, confused, extremely tired and unhappy, bad work ethic) and realize. i’m doing alright.
an exam study method/schedule that worked for me last midterms is to note down each exam date and to study two weeks before each one. one week if i’m completely pressed for time. the first week is for going through the whole coverage (follow syllabus, re-reading, mark down parts you don’t understand, start slowly testing) and then the second week is for ensuring retention through active recall methods (testing myself, making mind maps without looking at the textbook or class notes, going through the syllabus and looking at each topic to evaluate what i know).
it’s also very important at this point to get at least 6 hours of sleep-- from experience it’s hard to retrieve information on test day when i pull all-nighters!! after i started structuring study days around the question “okay what do i need to do so i get good rest that feels well-earned and satisfying?”, i started seeing better results academically and physically.
