Lightning round of headcanons I came up with on the spot (most of them are in a non-killing game au but they all still know each other)

If kumada lost a match of wii sports tennis she would throw the Wii remote at the tv on purpose

Kamimura would invite hasegawa to his place to watch slasher movies but it would always turn into something else. Quiz night, makeout sesh, you name it

If hayashi ever became a wrestler (highly unlikely since I imagine she doesn't like performing for a camera) she would nickname herself something stupid like 'The Blood-Red Bulldog' Because alliteration is Badass

Maekawa watches sentai but literally ONLY for the mecha, everything else can rot in her eyes

He doesn't like to admit it because of the flower's symbolism, but one of yaitabashi's favourite flowers is the red spider lily because it is pretty (also his favourite pokemon is lilligant)

Sasaki and hirose would have this kind of arrangement where he could teach her about the medical field whereas she could teach him about other subjects, so they both learn from each other

Isono would invite wada to her streams and sometimes as a prank would make him impersonate her and they'd have a casual conversation and the stream chat would be so confused

Chiba is surprisingly agile/acrobatic, mostly because tamba taught her the basics of gymnastics

Harada isn't gay but he's definitely thought about kissing hama and hiroaki at least once before, yukino is not surprised because she thinks also thinks about kissing hama sometimes

(Here's one I think could happen in canon) tei doesn't immediately recognise isoda but once he puts the pieces together and realises they're the one who's songs keep playing at the cafe he works at he just utters the most guttural "YOU..." imaginable

Tamba would foolishly try to challenge ouno to a game of twister on multiple occasions and get absolutely destroyed every time

Akiba would find harada to be smoking hot (omg TWINS) in spite of the fact that he's literally just a loaf of plain bread, I guess harada just has insurmountable rizz

Ikeda flips the board every time he loses at monopoly or any board game ever. He doesn't care if his opponents were playing for 2nd place THEY CAN PLAY FOR 2ND AT A 180⁰ ANGLE FOR ALL HE CARES

Watari would get okazaki to help her organise an absolutely insane stunt where she literally shoots herself out of a cannon into a ball pit or some shit. Why? Because she can

Hasemura au where kamimura is a chemistry teacher and hasegawa is a (marine) biology teacher and they both teach at the same school and when they aren't teaching they're being awkward and cute and flirting with each other (aged up because you can't be a teacher at 17 ofc) and sometimes they work together in classes and they're really fucking bad at hiding how gay they are but really good at teaching at the same time it's literally just hasemura except they're teachers

Ok time for hot takes.

1. People always say that it's perfectly fine to criticise tetro for certain things but never fucking elaborate on what those things are. The only thing I've ever seen be called into question regarding tetro are tsukigata's questionable at best, offensive at worst writing, and the way 80% of okazaki's characterisation isn't expanded upon in the main series so you just assume she's evil for the lulz.

2. I don't often say this about characters but I genuinely hope ikeda dies before he can 'redeem' himself. I put redeem in quotation marks because realistically how do you come back from joking about tsukigata's status as an illegal immigrant, yaitabashi's blindness and tei's enjo kōsai (like he really went and called him 'yoshiwara' which, need i remind you, was a red-light district during the Edo period. Red-light districts are areas known for prostitution that are LEGALLY RECOGNISED by the Japanese government). Sure, the age regression thing is pretty interesting and could lead to some form of development, but I would absolutely HATE if he had some stupid redemption arc over the course of the game, hogging screen time from characters who are VASTLY more enjoyable and likable. To quote someone I saw on twitter "I NEED THAT BOY TO FUCKING DIE"

3. It bugs me just a teeny tiny bit that the surviving group in Pink is so... hiroaki-centred? You've got hiroaki himself, ojima (his love interest), tamba (his opp throughout chapter 5), and yanagi (who has a weird love-hate relationship with him that is HEAVILY focused on). The only other survivor who isn't largely connected to hiroaki is wada, and he fucking died a month later. I would've also said something about how generally predictable the surviving group is with TWO exceptions (ojima and tamba) but I've come to realise that a predictable surviving group doesn't make for a bad story.

4. Ouno is THE single most interesting character in blue so far, and no, I will not elaborate.

5. Tei is a fucking idiot sometimes. I can understand letting his emotions cloud his judgement and make him forget details about who voted for ikeda how many times (looking at the fact that a certain terrarium artist voted for ikeda only 4 out of 5 times, and not 5 out of 5 times like tei thinks), but, "I'm not gonna attack a girl", but you'll attack a legally blind, physically frail boy? GREAT FUCKING LOGIC, TEI.

6 (and this is my biggest bugbear). THE TETRO FANDOM (most of it anyway) HAS A TOXIC POSITIVITY PROBLEM. Every single video I've seen being mildly critical of tetro for reasons that are honestly kind of understandable a lot of the time, is immediately derided by the most determined glazers on the planet as "bad faith" or "hating instead of criticism" and is brought up in discussions with the vibe of what I can only envision as the face someone makes when they smell expired food. Granted, this is the only thing I can really pin down to toxic positivity, but it's still prevalent and should not be ignored.

7 (and last). Hayashigeki is a really good ship bogged down by painfully repetitive writing. They're on good terms! Oh, now they're not! Now they are again! Whoops, nevermind! They're back again! Oop, divorce arc #3! Surely they stick together this time! Nope, never mind. Yanagi confesses his love? Surely that solidifies it! Oh, hayashi's dead, oh well- WAIT WHAT DO YOU MEAN HAYASHI'S DEAD?! I can get behind the idea that no relationship formed in a killing game is truly going to be healthy. That's why I love hasemura and it's depiction of codependency, in spite of it falling into a similar trap once or twice. But hayashigeki? Nah, that's as vanilla as you're ever going to get. They're already married but they're divorcing every three or something days. It just bothers me.

That's enough tetro critique for one day. I'll be expecting the lapdogs to tell me to kill myself or something if this post gains traction/lh

Ok so I know I'm a week late to this discussion, but I've seen this talked about approximately zero times.

So, in Reward Game, Ikeda decides to keep Yaitabashi's reward after answering his question correctly. Dick move. Yet, only ONE person, that being Nishiguchi, vocally objects to this.

HOWEVER, when Kumada answers her question correctly and decides to keep Ikeda's reward (which Ikeda obviously angrily objects to considering it's HIS reward, but that still reeks of hypocrisy since he yoinked Yaitabashi's reward earlier on), not only is Ikeda mad about it, but HIROSE FUCKING SHINGO decides to finally open his mouth, only to tell Kumada to trade with Ikeda after a, for all we know, half hearted and insincere promise to return Yaitabashi's reward to him. Kumada obviously refuses, citing that Yaitabashi let Ikeda keep his reward anyway. We're gonna put a pin in this and talk about it in a moment.

I find it kind of funny but also a bit sad that Ikeda says Kumada wants his life ruined for 'no reason', either he is smoking some absolutely generational crack or he's blinded himself to his cruelty as a trauma response. Honestly, I'm more inclined to the former because I feel as though Ikeda KNOWS the effect his spiteful words have on people, but he either doesn't care or doesn't know better.

Taking the pin out, later in the day, Ouno and Yokoi plan to swipe Ikeda's reward back from Kumada's room. I mean, fair enough, it only seems rightful that everyone gets given their own rewards. But what pisses me off is this. Do they ever mention getting Yaitabashi's reward back from Ikeda. NO. And I don't care if Yaita said Ikeda could keep it. It was an absolutely massive dick move on Iikeda's part, and Yaita has every right to get his reward back.

The point I'm trying to make is that, since Voter Game, the odds have been almost comically stacked against Kumada in spite of the fact that, outside of antagonising Ikeda, she... hasn't really done anything wrong? I'm not going to get into Voter Game itself right now (if I do, it'll be in a separate post), but I don't understand the sudden switch-up on Ikeda. Pre-Voter Game, someone probably would have slapped him, or at the very least more people would've yelled at him for snatching Yaita's reward, but only one person clearly objected to it (Hirose doesn't count. His "Ikeda." could have meant literally anything.)

Honestly, almost all of Ikeda's appearances since Voter game have just made me err more to Kumada's side because he routinely shows off how much of a nasty, spiteful, no-punches-pulled asshole he is to everyone who interacts with him (and don't even get me STARTED on Tei and Ikeda I will actually stab someone), and I hate how, the way I'm seeing his arc continue, he'll probably end up being "redeemed" in some way, or made into a nicer character. And I don't want that. What I want is for Ikeda to be met with nothing but scorn by most of the main cast. Not brutal violence, just scorn. No one should have to tolerate Ikeda's racist, ableist, and whatever the fuck him calling Tei a hooker was about-ist behaviour, and if he gets out of this game alive, I'll be a fucking monkey's uncle.

I'm truly holding out hope that all of this was an intentional writing choice on Von's part. In fact, I'm almost certain that it is, but all of this honestly just annoys me personally, and so I don't get brutally mauled to death by a bunch of lapdogs for the crime of being even mildly critical of Tetro, I have to say that this isn't a condemnation of any kind or me turning my back on the series. Even with all these gripes, I still truly love this series and will probably never forget the excitement it's brought me. But still, I think it's completely reasonable, if not beneficial, to critique something I don't like or that bothers me a bit.

Blehh... this was just supposed to be a brief post about something weird I noticed during Reward Game and turned into a rant about how much I hate Ikeda. Well, maybe not hate, but... eh, my feelings about him are too complicated to summarise, I'll stick with hate.

I'm sorry but nishiguchi's death is genuinely so unsatisfying to me

Like I'd KIND OF get it if she was victim 1 because first deaths are always unsatisfying in some way, but having her die in chapter 2??? After barely doing anything??? Fucking CHIBA did more than mutsuko did throughout the game.

I'm not even gonna begin to talk about the missed potential of her connection to seki I genuinely cannot wait for her terminal to come out so we can actually get some info on that. Especially since I'm pretty sure seki is the one who actually writes the student terminals?

AND HER CONNECTION TO THE MAFIA we need that elaborated upon too like how did she end up there.

I'm gonna wait before making any major judgements but if we don't get more nishiguchi info by at the very least chapter 4 then she might just be the tetro student with the most wasted potential ever

Ouno genuinely makes me so sad to think about every time I do i just have to stop whatever I'm doing and just sit there for a moment

She had a child that she needed to go back to and who will grow up without her mother's love guiding her UGGGHHHHH IT MAKES ME FEEL SO SICK

And the fact that she killed akiba who had basically nothing to go back to while she had basically everything to go back to so she probably didn't even hesitate to drop the microwave on him MAKES ME TERMINALLY ILL

And the fact that she reacts to getting caught by kicking and screaming (and going smack on ikeda's head) and saying that they aren't executing her and when she wakes up from being knocked out she starts crying and saying that she has a daughter she needs to go home to

AND THE FACT THAT HER DAUGHTER WAS PROBABLY THE LAST THING SHE THOUGHT OF BEFORE HER DEATH AND THAT SHE PROBABLY THOUGHT SHE FAILED HER IN SOME WAY WHY DON'T I JUST KILL MYSELF NOW

I have not seen ride the cyclone but I have listened to space age bachelor man out of morbid curiosity and let me tell you that was the most disturbing five minutes I've ever subjected my ears to and I loved every second of it

Every time it so much as appears on my yt music feed now I recoil because there's a non zero chance I'll listen to it again and cry because it's so unbelievably out of pocket

Not even 10 minutes later I find some dummy saying Ouno's voice is "atrocious."

I know I'm kinda beating a dead horse here but it bears repeating: if you dislike a voice in tetro, please do everyone a favour and keep your (wrong) opinion to yourself, and ESPECIALLY don't broadcast your opinions to public spaces where the VAs are almost guaranteed to see them.

Not only is it extremely insulting to the VAs, but in Ouno's case, it's beyond insulting, and outright ableist towards people with vocal disabilities.

I know it's now a relative minority compared to how it was last month, but apparently, we keep pulling a lot of ignorant or outright moronic people into the fandom, who then get pissy when their rudeness is shut down by more seasoned fans.

Sidenote: I might end up making a few posts in the future about my grievances with issues I've found in the fandom, but please don't think I'm bitching for the sake of it. I do love this fandom, but I want either to bring to light things that aren't often spoken of in the fandom, or bringing my own perspective on commonly talked about issues.
