on the floor cuddle with a Star Wars ship of ur choice!!
Rey huffs. Sheâs not unused to sleeping on a hard surface. She didnât always have her home back on Jakku, she didnât always have blankets or pillows, and honestly the floor has a rug tossed over it, so itâs not even like itâs straight up metal or wood sheâs laying on. It should be easier with Finn back too, with his being alive and well and breathing, the sound settling in her ears and his presence a foot away making her feel whole again.
She turns her head and blinks at him in the dark, making out the way his chest rises and falls and relishing his existence. She missed him. Sheâd rather not separate like that again, and itâs a thought she has all the time, but itâs more concrete here sharing the rug with him. Having him with her again is more of a comfort than the lightsaber resting above their heads.
Maybe she just wants to be closer to him. She wonders what it would be like to take his hand, but she knows if he tried that with her while she was sleeping, itâd spook her. None of this is helping her sleep though, and theyâve got a long day ahead of them tomorrow.
âFinn?â she whispers, so quietly that she may as well not have said it at all, but if heâs sleeping, she doesnât want to disturb him.
âYeah?â Â His voice is soft too, not groggy enough to suggest heâd been sleeping too soundly.
Sheâs relieved, and her question blurts out of her before she can really think on it. âDo you mind if I sleep next to you?â
Thereâs a pause that stretches on a few long seconds, and Rey worries sheâs asked the wrong question of a friend. Sheâs on the verge of bubbling out an apology when Finn lets out a quiet, quick laugh.
Rey bites on her cheek to keep herself from smiling, but she wriggles over the rug towards him, feeling how warm he is as she sidles up. She keeps her space, but only a little bit. She can see him smiling, eyes shut, and she reaches down between them to wind her fingers through his. He instantly takes her hand back, squeezing it.
After a few moments, he asks, âCanât sleep?â
âI donât know why,â she replies easily without trying to deny it, because she has no reason to lie to him. She doesnât want to.
âMe neither. I mean, I was kinda dozing, but it wasnât like I was about to start snoring.â
She laughs a little. Itâs good, having someone who can make her laugh. âItâd be nice if we had some pillows.â
Finn falls silent at first, but it doesnât make her nervous this time. âYou can use me for a pillow.â
She blinks at him, and he blinks back, but theyâre both still softly smiling, and Rey feels positively giddy. âOkay,â she says, biting her lip so she doesnât giggle about it.
Finn takes his hand away, if only so he can lift his arm up and let her tuck herself in closer. Rey erases that last bit of space between them and rests her head against his shoulder, her body pressed into his. His arm drops around her, and she canât stop smiling; she is sure her face is going to hurt from it in the morning.
âIs this okay?â he asks, his hand nervous against her back.
âItâs okay,â she replies hastily. âCan I put my arm like this?â She lifts it up and gestures over him.
âYeah. Thatâs okay too.â
She settles it over his chest and feels so incredibly warm. And safe. She feels safe, which is even better and a little amazing. âYou donât have a pillow though,â she says with concern, worried about fairness.
âI donât need one.â
âYeah. Iâm comfortable if you are.â
âI am,â she says, and as if to prove it, she shuffles herself closer, curling up against him. His arm shifts too, tucking around her more securely, and she hums happily. âMaybe we can sleep now.â
âYou saying the solution to sleeping on floors is making sure youâre with me?â
âIt might work,â she teases idly, closing her eyes and relaxing in the way he breathes in and out. She doesnât think sheâll ever get tired of the reassurance he survived. Of listening to him breathe beside her, all the little twitches his body makes against hers. âWe could keep testing it out.â
Finn beams. âSounds good to me.â
Rey ducks her head against his chest for a moment, not shy so much as simply unable to contain how happy the thought makes her. Sheâs still smiling when she goes back to nestling in the crook of his arm, and this time when her eyes close, she knows theyâre not going to open again until morning. Slowly, gently, she falls asleep to the repetition of Finnâs soft breath, close and comforting throughout the night.
