Can I ask 17 or 18 for Hisana and Ichigo? Platonic or romantic, doesn't matter! I'm interested in their dynamic now 🥰
Cruore: flowing blood
Marcid: incredibly exhausted
(Platonic because I honestly can’t see them having a romantic relationship)
“--and then you should have seen the look on Yuzu’s face when we surprised her with those puppies, I’ve never seen a girl so happy,” Ichigo continues before pausing when there’s no reply. “Hisana? You still with me?”
“...go on,” is the faint reply. “I’m listening. Keep talking, you’re a good storyteller.”
She barely gets the words out before breaking into series of paroxysmal coughs. Ichigo feels something wet splatter onto the nape of his neck and swears violently, bending down so he can set her down on the ground.
“Aww,” Hisana says after taking a moment to catch her breath. Her lips are speckled with red. “I was enjoying my piggy-back ride.”
“You’re impossible, you know that?” He informs her. Coughing up blood and she still manages to give him sass, Ichigo thinks to himself. No wonder old-man Urahara had taken a liking to her.
“So I’ve been told,” she says, giving him a faint smile. “If you were getting tired of carrying me though, you could have just told me. I’m more than capable of walking without your help.”
Ichigo gives her a pointed look.
“You have a goddamn hole through your chest,” he says flatly.
“I’m a hollow. I’m supposed to have a hole through my chest,” she says mulishly.
“Fine. You have two holes through your chest,” Ichigo retorts, resisting the urge to palm his forehead. God. And this was the woman who was widely considered to be a paragon of virtue. Paragon of stubbornness and idiocy, more like. “And quit talking so much, you should be saving your strength.”
“If I didn’t talk, you’d worry,” she replies before grimacing, pressing one hand to her chest. “Ugh. Stupid Szayel and his stupid poisons stopping me from shifting. Even dead, he’s a pain in the ass.”
“How are you doing on breaking down that poison, by the way?” Ichigo asks.
“I mean. I’m still alive, so that’s something,” she answers.
Ichigo glances at the redness steadily soaking through her shirt and presses his lips together tightly.
“I still don’t know why you took that blow for me. If I get hurt, you can heal me. If you get hurt, what the hell am I supposed to do?” He asks, throwing his hands up in frustration.
“If you took that blow, you’d be dead,” Hisana says pointedly. “And even I can’t bring people back from the dead.”
“And now you’re on the verge of dying yourself!” Ichigo snarls back. “God, do you have any idea what Rukia’s going to do to me if you die? After she just got you back? Do you have any idea what this is going to do to her--”
“You think I don’t know that?” Hisana hisses back. “You think I don’t know exactly how much I’ve hurt--” She cuts herself off, going silent for a moment. “Look, I know...I know I’ve still got things left to do. I know I can’t afford to let things end now. But you-- you’re just a kid, Kurosaki-kun.” She looks up at him with haunted, pained eyes. “I can’t let a kid die.”
Ichigo looks away, suddenly unable to meet her gaze. “I haven’t been a kid for a long time now.”
“No, you just haven’t been protected for a long time now,” she says, closing her eyes. “Let me do the protecting for once, Kurosaki-kun.”
Ichigo glances at Hisana’s pale, exhausted face. Even now, on the verge of unconsciousness, her features are lined with worry and stress.
Yeahh...not a chance, he thinks to himself as he picks her up in his arms.
Now time to find a hollow capable of opening up a Garganta and get the hell out of here.
