Re: Sasunaru; I feel like a cultural disconnect might be at play here. What we Westerners think is gay (especially those of us who are straight) could be the norm for friendships/familial relations involving two males in Japan. It was stated in universe that they're like brothers after all and Kishimoto compared their bond to him and his brother. I'm not Japanese so I'm not 100% sure so someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
