Song from a secret garden.

Luna arched her back and gently placed the bow on the strings. She patiently waited as a soft melody started to play from the piano next to her. Merric looked exhausted, but still shot her an encouraging smile while setting the mood for her part.

She slowly moved the bow, making her violin produce gentle sounds that gradually shifted and twirl with each movement of the bow.

The sounds from both instruments blended into a harmonic melody that captivated them in a moment that almost felt frozen in time. The music was the only thing that kept moving, as if it had a life of its own.

The high-pitched cries of the violin were in a perfect contrast to the mellow tune of the piano, and when the tone dropped to a deeper sound, the dramatic effect was intensified.

When they reached the end of the melody, Luna lowered her bow, while Merric let the last few sounds fade into silence. They turned to look at each other with meaningful expressions.

This is definitely my favorite drawing I’ve ever made (so far), for so many reasons. I feel like my proportion got much better than my last violin drawing (although still not perfect and the violin is once again too big), the fact that I pushed myself to draw the background and tried to incorporate the light from the environment (I always rely on white-light as a default.)

And of course, our favorite ship - Lunic, is back!

Also, I’ve discovered that describing music is one of the hardest things to write. It took me so long to find the right phrasing and I still think it’s very lacking, in comparison to the melody itself. But I tried my best! It’s a process...

There is more to this writing-piece, but I’m already self-conscious enough about my writing as it is, so I’ll just leave it after the “read more” bar.

(Also, please ignore the fact that “Song from a secret garden” was released a few years after this scene technically takes place. It just fit so perfectly with the drawing.)

“Not bad, crow-boy.” Luna said flirtatiously and headed toward him.

“You weren’t so bad yourself, mate.” Merric leaned on the piano, his hand supported his head. When she reached the piano, he lightly pulled her over to sit next to him on the piano stool.

“Are you tired?” she already knew the answer when she looked into his drowsy eyes.

“Tired?” he said playfully. “Never. Can’t you see I’m radiating with energy?”

They spent a few moments in silence before Merric started playing again – This time he played the 1st movement of Moonlight Sonata. Luna closed her eyes and let her thoughts carry her away alongside the soft melody.

A note out of place threw her back to reality. She turned to look at Merric that was still playing, though his body was tilted forward, his head hanging over his chest with his eyes shut and the notes got less and less accurate.

She let out a small chuckle and said- “Getting a little rusty there, love?”

Merric’s head jumped up immediately. He glanced at her for a moment, squinting his eyes at her.

“I’ll show you rusty.” He said and with all the determination he was able to muster, he started playing the 3rd movement of Moonlight Sonata. The intense tune set a completely different mood than the previous one and his fingers navigated between the keys so quickly it was almost impossible to follow. He glanced at her while still playing, his movement still flawless. He was definitely bragging.

Luna gave him a small nudge that threw him off key.

“Hey, that’s cheating.” He said and they both burst into laughter.

She waited until he finished the melody before she said- “Now it’s my time to show off.”

She flickered her wand and three violins came floating behind her. She placed the bow on the strings and started to play in unison with the other violins. The pace was very quick and intense. It was the 3rd movement of Summer, from The Four Seasons.

Merric amusingly shook his head- “Very predictable of you to go straight to Vivaldi.”

They kept playing around for a while, sometimes in turns and sometimes together. They woudn’t have noticed how much time has passed, if it weren’t for Charlie Brown that flew through the music-class window and tapped on the glass to draw their attention. That’s when they saw the sun has already started to set.

“Oh, dammit.” Luna checked her wristwatch. “I was supposed to meet Rowan at the library almost an hour ago. I should probably go before he gets upset with me again.”

“I’ll walked you there” he said calmly. “I meant to go there later, anyway.”

But they haven’t budged. It’s as if Luna’s legs weren’t listening to her brain’s basic instructions.

“Let’s go, then.” she said, but neither has moved a muscle. They stared at each other in silence.

Charlie let out an annoyed hoot, that made them jump in their seats.

“Right. I’m going, I’m going.” Luna said and was finally ready to stand up, when Merric slid his arm behind her back, placed his other hand beneath her jaw-line and in a swift move pulled her into a kiss.

Luna’s brain went blank, to a point where she was completely unaware of Charlie’s angry hoots. She wrapped her arms around Merric, running her fingers through his hair as their kiss became more and more passionate.

They barely stopped to breathe, so when they have, it almost felt like they were emerging from underwater as they were gasping for air.

It must have been a while, because when they finally pulled away from each other, Charlie wasn’t there anymore. Luna checked her watch and let out a faint sigh.

“All right, now I’m sure Rowan is upset with me.” She said and without waiting for any more temptations, pushed herself to her feet.

Merric gave her a lazy look, but then shrugged and said- “Lead the way.”
