Yeah, totally! At heart, Homestuck is a shout-out to old timey video games like EarthBound. From what I rememberrrr....
The plot follows four internet friends who decide to play a computer game together.
The game, unbeknownst to them, triggers the apocalypse and destroys our universe (save for the four players) and is supposed to create a new universe in its stead.
The kids’ job is to become gods of this new universe.
Around Act 5, they meet the “gods” of the game that created our universe, who are a bunch of aliens (this would be the trolls).
With the trolls’ help, they discover that their game has glitched and failed to create a new universe.
Their new goal becomes to perform a hard reset of the game in order to facilitate the creation of a new universe.

@canker-sore I’m not sure. normally I can’t STAND books where I know they’re going to die at the end, but it’s done in a very interesting way here and I’d argue the ending is as happy as it can be, under the circumstances. give it a try I think you’d like it imo
