im a little fed up when people lump she pronouns two in the whole discourse of “two uses they them” discussion because its way more complicated and complex than most people realize. sharing these replies i left on bsky here
a friend of mine also mentioned that the headcanon is based around the shows text. most viewers can agree two is a trans allegory, i think thats only heightened by them being featured in this years trans visibility day artwork. i implore you to rewatch tpot 2 because it is one of the most important episodes for explicit trans themes with two and gaty. why would the writer pair them with an explicit trans woman character? why these specific choices of phrasing in text, if you look deeper there is a reason people choose to interpret two this way.
using he on them is bad because of the way society has chosen to view certain attributes, its the assumption they're a man that is harmful!! reducing them to something surface level hurts so many people. being genderless is a different experience to being non binary or trans. two is a cartoon character also!! they aren't afflicted with real human concepts theyre a cartoon number from Battle For Dream Island. algebraliens do not experience it like humans or the object characters do. which makes two being transcoded a lot more impactful!!
there is a reason why this headcanon is so meaningful to me, and i wish people were more kinder and understanding about it. in wanting to defend a cartoon character you hurt actual trans and nb people. i have been accused of all sorts of things for this as a trans person, all for the crime of interpreting a character differently?
tldr: using he him on two is bad. dont do it. gender identity or the lack of it is complex, please take time to understand and learn from queer experiences. and PLEASE DO NOT MISGENDER CANONICALLY TRANS AND NB CHARACTERS!
