His aura outed him as a demon when she laid her eyes on him, but it also gave her no reason to distrust him. Instead of studying for her latest test, she was observing him from the little table outside the cafe. Books haphazardly open, wind losing her spot, she sat and watched, unfazed by the sound of the flipping pages. 

...Until he wasn’t there. Where did he go?

Amaranthe relaxed in the park, watching the families and couples as they picnicked and walked about. It was so peaceful here. It was the closest place to the country within the city. Turning to her water bottle, she jumped in surprise seeing the bottle full of beetles. How odd! She hadn’t even opened it yet. Peering closer, the young woman noticed they were water beetles. “Now how did you critters get in there?” Her voice soft and curious.  Growing up in the country, she’d gone with her brothers to hunt for stag beetles. Had captured lady bugs inside the house to release back into nature. Had run barefoot through the mud after a rainstorm and laughed as the mud squished between her toes. A bottle of beetles wasn’t going to scare her. But it did pique her curiosity.
