To say James was absolutely livid would be a complete understatement. He was actually surprised no actual smoke was leaving his ears. How dare Teddy bring a date to Christmas? They haven’t even gotten a chance to talk things out after their one night stand back in September. The last thing Teddy said to him was roughly along the lines of “Just because we had sex doesn’t mean we’re back together.”. There was no room for interpretation, nothing for him to read between the lines. Clearly, James has been downgraded from lover and best friend to best friend to booty call. Never, in a million years, he thought that Teddy would be the source of this much his anger and pain. This was the person he’s grown up with. Teddy has been there every step of the way.
James knew part of this was his fault. After Teddy basically told him their night together was nothing, he completely closed himself off. Any letters that were sent were thrown into the rubbish bin. Any plans they had to meet up, James ditched. Actually, a week after Teddy went back to Hogwarts, James promptly packed up his things and left. James needed time away from anything Teddy related if we was going to heal. Unfortunately, it seemed that a few months wasn’t enough. Teddy introduced his friend to the family and James escaped the the kitchen. If we was going to get through the night, he was going to need a distraction. He grabbed a beer from the fridge and decided to use his Uncle Bill as a shield again, knowing that Teddy was uncomfortable around his Ex-girlfriend’s father. He asked Uncle Bill about curse breaking which was sure to be a long conversation. It would buy him time as he thought up excuses to leave.
