Lupus saw (and smelled) some new things after the defeat at Boulder City.
Falloutober Day 7- Blossoms
Lupus breathed in the smell of spring. Granted, it was faint, but he could smell the burning flesh and smoked wood from where he stood. He watched the village of Sand Springs burn to the ground as he stood above it all, holding the banner of the bull.
His brother, and his best friend, stood right beside him on that cliff, surrounded by their men that helped scope out the enemy’s territory. It took months to finally get to this point, where the well fortified Sand Springs would be nothing but a heap of charred wood and bones in the wake of the Legion’s fury by morning.
Vulpes watched the carnage with a look of accomplishment. “Are you unsatisfied with Sand Springs’ destruction, brother?” He asked. His voice was laced with worry, worry that the town had not gone up in flames sooner.
Lupus shook his head. “No. Not at all.”
The younger brother smirked. “I know that look. Something is wrong.”
“Hmm?”
“Your brows sink to your eyes, and you don’t blink. I know you, and every little face you bare to hide your thoughts.”
Lupus shook his head once again. “It just disappoints me, how these profligates continue to fight to the very end. They would have made good soldiers.”
“A shame, truly,” his brother replied. “They refused to bend their knee to the mighty Caesar, however, and have paid dearly for it. It is a necessary sacrifice, though. From now on, all other cities in the east will think twice before turning their backs on the Legion.”
Lupus responded with a small hum.
“Anything else on your mind, brother?”
He was quiet for a moment. The wolf headed legionnaire stared at the crosses placed all across the perimeters of the fort. He opened out his palm to catch one of the many bits of floating ash in the sky. The still hot flake of ash settled peacefully in his blood stained hand. Lupus stared at the ash, before closing his hand around the delicate ember.
“The smell is also disturbing the aroma of spring. I hoped to be able to breathe in the blossoms growing from the trees, but it doesn’t seem that I will be able to do that after all.” He sighed.
A soft snicker left Vulpes’ throat. “That is the stench of victory. It serves as a reminder of who is in charge. Soon enough, when we head west and take over Hoover Dam, the Legion’s power and influence will increase tenfold.” He clapped his hand on his older brother’s shoulder. “We will be leading the charge for the most powerful empire in post apocalyptic America.”
“You mean, I will be leading the charge for the most powerful empire.” Lupus smirked. “I’m the next legate in line to Graham, after all. You will be on the sidelines, sneaking around in bushes and peeping on soldiers in the lake.”
Vulpes playfully pushed Lupus softly. “What kind of degenerate do you take me for?”
Lupus responded with, “The kind who wears a dog head and can’t stand bright light.”
“Look at who is talking.”
The tree blossoms high up in the mountains shed their loose petals on the world below. Those very same petals would decorate the carnage that the Legion would trample in the wake of war.

I should be working on my books, but then I saw Micky getting his shit wrecked big time and made a crusty sketch. @the-lord-of-the-things here you go lol. I’d make a complete piece with color and shading, but I completely forgor how to draw humans and this is the best I could do lmao.
Falloutober Day 2- Dream
Ahanu breathed out a fog of his own breath. He giggled at the sight and continued blowing hot air out of his mouth like the dragons from before the war.
Winter was brutal in the mountains, where his tribe lived. Food was scarce, and warmth even more scarce. Ahanu liked the winter, though, despite its shortcomings. He liked to play in the sky-dirt called snow, and pelt other children his age with clumps of it.
One of those children happened to be his little brother, Ahote. Contrary to him, he hated winter, and spent his time huddled close to a fire. When he was sent outside to gather firewood, Ahanu just had to throw a snowball at him.
He scooped snow into his little frozen hands, reeled back, and threw it as hard as he could at his unknowing brother. It hit him square at the back of his head.
Ahote twisted around, and glared at him. He shook off as much snow as he could as he went back to picking up branches.
“Come on, brother!” Ahanu called. “I want to make a snowman! You need to help me!”
“Do it yourself.” Ahote responded. “You know I hate the cold. I want to get back inside and keep the fire hot.”
Ahanu pouted. “You’re no fun.” He said as he began clumping snow together into mounds. He clumped more snow on top of the growing mound until it wasn’t unlike a snow tower. Ahote watched him decorate the snow tower with twigs and rocks with contempt.
The boy stomped over to Ahanu, placing his sticks down. “You’re doing it wrong.” He barked. “You roll the snow into big balls, and set them on top of each other to make a body.”
Ahanu rolled his eyes. “You think you can make a better snowman?”
“I know I can make a better snowman!”
“Prove it.”
“I will!” Ahote exclaimed, and began following his own formula of snowman building. Ahanu giggled quietly. His plan worked perfectly. As Ahote built the body, Ahanu joined in making the torso. He couldn’t help but smile at his twin being so hard at work to prove him wrong.

Lupus opened his eyes slowly. What was once the frost of winter and white of snow, was now the dirty, brown ceiling of the tent he took to sleeping in.
“Lupus.” The Courier grunted to him from the entrance of the shelter. “Get up. We need to get to Novac before the day gets hot.”
The ex-legionnaire nodded as he sat up in bed. Once his traveling companion walked away to wait for him, he let out a shaky sigh, and rubbed his tired eyes with the palms of his hands. For the first time in weeks, he dreams, and it was about his little brother and their childhood.
He hated dreaming.

Lupus rarely ever lets his hair grow out. Not just is it too h o t in the Mojave to have that much hair, but he himself has a lot of layered hair. When he does grow it out, it’s usually due to him being in colder parts of the territory and just not having the resources to cut his hair.
He also found that birds and other animals like using human hair to build nests, so he’ll occasionally go out of his way to grow his hair long enough, before getting it cut and left for wildlife.
