This is my first ever completed storyboard/animatic, so this is a monumental moment 😭💀 about 60% of it I would redo if I wanted to spend more time on this, but I know that if I do, I’m gonna run out of steam and never finish it lol. 

ANYWAYS! This is my interpretation of Ribbit’s death of @hootbon TADC Freakshow AU. In Freakshow! Lalo’s lore, he and Ribbit had an older brother/ younger sister dynamic where he not only teased her like any older brother would but he also felt responsible for her wellbeing. Them abstracting and thus being on Aingle’s hit list made him feel like it was his fault for leaving her alone when he knew she wasn’t doing well as of late. In fact, right before the events of this storyboard, they had gotten into an argument, with Lalo only stumbling across them mid attack because he was (begrudgingly) going to apologize to them for what he said. Lalo’s inclusion is fanon and had absolutely no impact on Ribbit’s fate (L + skill issue 🥀).

In all seriousness, I am a big fan of the Freakshow AU for TADC, and I just had to give Lalo a horror/gore design that allows him to be as unhinged as his “canon” counterpart is not legally allowed to be! I did extensive research into “Freakshow” attractions and PT Barnum’s circus acts before ultimately settling on a mix of the elusive “geek” sideshows that were reportedly grotesque and depraved shock value attractions and the novel surgical procedures that took place in front of live audiences! Hence why my boi and Ribs look like they have expired medical licenses lol

I’m not sure if you have an idea for a Freakshow!Ribbit in your AU yet, but since Ribbit is such an important character in Lalo’s lore, I wanted to throw out my idea of them being a “mad doctor” kind of character, with Lalo being her partner in crime! I found it fitting for them to be about dissection since they’re both amphibians, and frogs are popular in the world of biology. You’re more than welcome to ignore this design if you already have one in mind lol, I’d gladly conform to whatever you are imagining since it’s your AU! I’m just happy to be able to interact with it!

In this AU, Lalo and Ribbit have a close knit sibling bond, the older brother and the darling little sibling! When Ribbit is no longer in the picture, Lalo becomes even more twisted and unhinged than once thought. His sado-masochistic tendencies and erratic behavior make for *very* fun interactions with the other characters.

Initially, Caine was going to keep “Ribbit” around the tent like with the other retired members, but every time Lalo saw his partner, he’d go apeshit and attack it (rude 🙄). No matter how many punishments he endured or what Caine did to try and fix “Ribbit”, Lalo was relentlessly hostile, so he ultimately caved in and shelved “Ribbit” somewhere she couldn’t be seen.

Similar to Jax, who’s eyes changed after Kaufmo’s death, Lalo’s eyes also became sunken in after Ribbit “retired”, but it was more gradual as Lalo tried to remain in denial over what happened until he couldn’t anymore. He regrets deeply that he couldn’t protect her. That being said, he’s not ashamed of the scar on his face. He got it shortly before Ribbit’s death, and while it is a representation of his failure, he also sees it as physical proof that he actually fought for his friend and didn’t give up on them until the end.

I could honestly yap about this dude for hours. The tragedy of someone with nothing left to lose makes an interesting character to play around with!

Windwhisper the Willful

Introducing Windwhisper, the leader of Eskerclan! The clan itself is nomadic, and traverses all over the mountain territories in search of knowledge to gain and share. Naturally one can assume all of its clan cats are very insightful, and Windwhisper is no exception. He is a calm, thoughtful cat of little words. However, his very presence commands respect, regardless of his patient personality. Like most of Eskerclan’s kin, he was not born in the clan, and instead originated from Cliffclan. When the time for the apprentice trade came, he chose the travelers of the clans. He has no mate, nor kits, and shows no desire for it. When he isn’t leading Eskerclan, he finds himself at chilly streams, contemplating purpose and seeking to discover new kinds of insects or fish…
