also, update on lustration: feeling really down today and while trying to brainstorm the next half (third?) of the fic i’m realising that i have no hope of writing anything that i actually like after this point. aspera wrote act one with very little affini stuff and acts two and three will obv be affini centric and i don’t think either of us can write affini correctly? at least not as well as i want. also, my fic plan has virtually no kink and zero horny anything so far so like. it would be boring to read for the setting.

so essentially, lustration might be dead purely bc we didn’t power thru and write it all in one go, the motivation has been lost as i predicted

Hello and happy 2022! Do you have any advice on uncrossing and removing any bad forces that may be clinging to you?

Hello there. 🌿

Firstly, I’ll say that if you have any reason to seriously believe there is something dangerous clinging to you, then you should probably consult a practitioner you trust who is skilled in spiritual purification and/or excision.

That said, there are multiple ways one can help to rid themself of less serious malign influences. This could include anything from an Eyebiting¹, to the crossing of a Magical Taboo, to the incursion of a Hex, or even the stain of a Ghast². It’s all a matter of context, however, as any one of the things I just listed could easily be too much for even a skilled mage to amend, depending on the particular case in question.

Some fairly straightforward methods you can use to aid you in this kind of endeavor include:

Sain yourself with the smoke of a Botanical Fumigation, which utilizes particularly protective and/or purgative spirament. There are plants across the globe which possess such virtues, so I strongly encourage the use one’s own discretion, and knowledge of their local ecology, when harvesting/acquiring pertinent plant materials. A few examples of such plants, that are widely available to many, include Cedar, Salvia, Camphor, Juniper, Lemongrass, and Conifer resin.

Purify yourself with the waters of a Deterging Bath, which, like the previously mentioned fumigatory method, incorporates the spirament of materials which possess lustral virtues. A rudimentary example of such a bath would be one infused with Salt, Yarrow, Lavender, Cinnamon, Rosemary, and Turmeric (the whole rhizome, not the powder.)

Perform a Rown-Bough Brushing. Which is to say brush down your entire body, from the top of your head to the tips of your fingers and toes, with a bough of Rowan, harvested at Midnight on Thawingmas (between Imbolc and Candlemas.)

Perform an Egg Cleanse on yourself. Keep in mind, however, that it you aren’t already a talented healer, or someone who has spent time building skill in Curanderismo, this method isn’t likely to do all that much for you. I mention it here because, coming from a mixed heritage of not just Celtic and Germanic, but also South American roots, I was taught La Limpia from a very early age and have come to know it as a powerful method for the purging of malignant forces.

Finally, however simple it may seem, if you are able to perform a Seawater Ablution, it’s one of the very best ways you can purify your person of baleful influences. The only real exceptions would be malevolence that comes from the Sea itself, but very few people are ever met with these forces.

1- The process of being marked by the Evil Eye—also known as Overlooking. If carried out by a truly powerful Malefic Witch, no simple quick-fix magic will do; only a skilled Pellar (or cultural equivalent) will have any chance at amending the situation.
