Using some old art for today because it's ramble time again babey (this isn't really canon with how their personalities are but I digress! Let him show off his hubby once in a while!)!!!!! This is Lutanatar (y'all know him ;3) and his husbandt, Corrak <333 I adore them with all my heart and I'm obsessed with them..... Lore under the cut!
The two of them are the founders of the town where my D&D campaign takes place in/around, they left the underdark around 310 years ago, each for their own reason, and founded Lutarrak, a town where nobody is turned away and all are welcome. It's primarily a mining and forging town, but over the years farms have been popping up at the edges of the town as it expanded.
(I should mention that Lutanatar is a Drow and Corrak is a Duergar but they're my own 'versions' of the peoples in D&D 'canon')
Lutanatar is much more reserved than Corrak, taking care of all the administrative and paperwork things that have to do with being the heads of a town/community, and Corrak is the 'face' of the town, always being around to help.
The in-between time from the founding of the town to the current day isn't too well-fleshed out, but in the current day, neither of the founders are heading/taking care of Lutarrak. A mine collapse during the town's 300th anniversary caused a lot of havoc, and various events led to one founder being found (hah) dead in the morning and the other missing.
BUT THAT'S A STORY FOR ANOTHER TIME! BACK TO THE FLUFF!!!
As is typical of long-lived peoples, the two coexist as founding partners and close friends for a long time (long time = decades), probably mutually pining idk I haven't thought about it that much, basically when they come to the surface and found the town they're like business partners and best friends and somewhere along the way they become romantic partners :3
I LOVE THEM SO MUCHHHHHHH <3 I MADE THEIR STORY TRAGIC (more on that at a later date) BUT IT'S OKAY THAT'S WHAT AUs ARE FORRRRR
This is some slightly older art that I drew of Lutarrak (the town Lutanatar and Corrak founded) for my campaign. It's the only home Lutanatar cares to speak of, and though he's never really liked naming things after people, I think he'd be fine with the local tavern being renamed Corrak's Keep after the events of the past 10 years.
(more lore below the cut but basically yeah this is their home! They live(d) in the Founder's Home on the map)
The town was built out from the Town Square (where the Founder's Statue is, which was erected in the town's 250th year) which was where the two founders made their first home after escaping/leaving the underdark. You can see the farms that popped up over the years, made to accommodate the growing population of townsfolk. There's a small school, and after the Mine's collapse there was a proper cemetery built (previously the passed had been buried near their homes).
Lutarrak is a well-loved trade route stop for merchants during the merchant season, now again since the mine collapse was reversed and the mining operations are starting back up again.
I mentioned it before, but Lutarrak is primarily a mining and forging town, due to its extremely close proximity to the Ruinfore Mountain range, which is littered with cave entrances.
This is not the last you'll see of Lutarrak but it's all I had the time for today so here we are!!!
Maaaan I was struggling trying to think about what to do for today but then it became clear: more of Lutanatar!!! Who could have guessed?
And since I was working on other art today I'm using an older piece:
Because what's worse than your weakness being one of the mind???? Ahahahaaa anyway more under the cut :3
This is not a canon blurb though, at least not yet (I haven't given this time period too much thought yet hence the writing!)
Lutanatar winces as he walks, the dagger pressed against his thigh burning like a brand as he tries not to think about it.
But he can't NOT think about it. Not when it's always there, constantly there, pestering him in his mind as he waves it off like a pesky fly trapped in a kitchen. But it isn't a fly anymore, more like a wasp, as time passes the nuisance grows and grows and he doesn't know how much longer he can swat it until-
"Lu? What's wrong?" Corrak's gentle voice pulls him back to reality, a grounding hand taking his as he realizes he hadn't been breathing.
"It... It's nothing, dear," Lutanatar manages out, a hopefully convincing smile squinting his eyes like it should when he's really happy, "I thought I saw something, but there wasn't anything there. Shall we?"
An arm gestured out, an invitation to go back to their normal walk, on this normal day, with a normal knife and a normal feeling. Nothing can ruin this day, nothing. Lutanatar wouldn't let it.
Corrak pauses, then accepts the arm, and they move on. Sure, that was odd, especially coming from Lu. But nothing can ruin this day, nothing. Corrak wouldn't let it.
"I'm so glad we could have this day to ourselves," Lutanatar mused, his arm still looped around Corrak's, "what with your work and mine, it feels like we never have time for us and us alone."
A moment and then Corrak chuckles, and agrees. "Aye, isn't that the truth!"
The silence that comes next is a comfortable one, not overbearing or uncomfortable, just perfect. So many things are said in this silence, without needing to utter a word--if it wasn't clear in how they spoke, how they match, the silence surrounding them says it all.
Lutanatar's eyes fixed on the horizon, Corrak looks up at him with unmatched adoration. How he managed to stay in the presence of such beauty was beyond him, but he couldn't be more grateful. Beautiful not only in mind or in appearance, but also in spirit, also in his words, also in his ways, also in every part of him that he doesn't let anyone else near. Gods, did he luck out in this life. One chance meeting, and now he has it all.
"Corrak? What's the holdup?” Now it was Corrak's turn to snap back to reality, to see Lu walking back after he stopped at a standstill. For a moment, just for a moment, he slips back into his mind, thinking about all the things that could happen, all the things that could take this perfect moment, this perfect day, this perfect man, this perfect town, away from him. Explosions, fires, curses... And how he'll do anything to prevent them from happening.
"Ah, sorry, Lu- I, heh, was lost there for a moment. I wanted to ask you something, actually," Corrak pivots, away from the thoughts and to something better: "I was wondering... would you want to head home to make some cookies or something? Together?"
"Corrak, you know cooking together is my weakness. What are you planning, you sly fox~?" The line comes out much more playful than he intends, but one glance at Corrak's face says it was the perfect intonation after all. Lutanatar smirks, grabbing Corrak by the hand and making his way home.
He'll ask him the question he wanted to later tonight. Because nothing can ruin this perfect day. Not even the dagger. Not today.
Whaaaat what do you mean I pivoted and just wrote a fun Corrak and Lutanatar scene? There's weaknesses in there I swear! Haha! Anywayyy
Doing a text post today cuz I've been working on some other art! Has to do with beloved Lutanatar and Corrak of course, so check below the cut!
Lutanatar is the clear night sky in winter, when you can see your breath linger in the air, feel the chill entering your bones, feel the warmth of others like it's a luxury you can only sparingly afford. He's a black cat, reserved and timid at times; he likes to keep to himself, especially at certain parts of his story, but that doesn't mean he always likes being alone.
He feels like failure is inevitable. One day he'll mess up so bad that he'll have no choice but to leave, again, and he deserves it, the starting over, the never truly feeling happy and home, because he was born to hurt others. There was only one time, one place, where he unlearned his defenses. And he paid too much of a price to bear because of it.
His days in the sun are over. And he deserves it.
- colors: deep, dark blues and cool hues
- motifs: stars, moon imagery, books, black cat
- he is mysterious, like a streetcat you coax closer to your home by being persistent in giving it treats and such. He is as ethereal as the night sky, as the cosmos, even if he doesn't see it. He's so much more than he lets himself know. And he is worth it. Gods, is he worth it.
- just strong strong themes of self-doubt and negative self-talk, he's got so many problems <3
Corrak is a cool Autumn day, one where the sun still shines warm on your back and the leaves are just crunchy enough to be fun to step on, one where work flows easy and the comfort from others is welcomed and reciprocated as easy as breathing. He's much more outgoing than Lutanatar, though he too has timid times!
The fireplace is warm where he sits with the ones he loves most, cozy under handmade blankets and sweaters. He's had many places to call home, and every one has been as perfect as the last. Family is never perfect, and neither is he--knowing that and learning from it is how to grow, how to thrive, how to forgive, how to bear the starting again over and over.
Even if he has to fight for it, even if he has to give up everything he loves and everything he's ever found joy from, it would be worth it. Corrak does not hesitate to do anything for the people he cares about. Anything.
- colors: warm hues, deep greens and warm oranges
- motifs: glasses and books, his cane, autumn imagery (leaves, warm tea, a cozy house), a super fluffy orange cat (or dog?)
- he's very cozy, like a warm embrace after a chilly day. He's one you can imagine coming home to. He's one you can imagine forgiving all your faults, loving you for who you are and no more and no less. He's a rock in a field of maize, the only solid thing to hold onto in a storm. And he's worth it. Gods, is he worth it.
- he's maybe got some self-preservation issues but you know what? It's okay! !!!
