There’s a ghost in Khura’in.
Okay, perhaps they should start from the beginning: there’s a ghost in Khura’in that's been following Apollo ever since he stepped foot in the country.
Yeah, that works.
Nahyuta is unsure of what to do about them. Scratch that --- they have a few mind maps worked out in their head, but all of them lead to dead ends of some sort. They surmise it’s because of their own paranoia; a little demon it is, having spawned from years of oppression from someone they were forced to regard as ‘family’. They wish coping was easier than this. But more than anything, they suppose they should be grateful to have gotten this far.
Too bad the Dummy’s Guide to Healing doesn’t include a section titled, “Is It Okay if I see Ghosts???”.
It’s not anxiety or dissociation, they know this --- they were raised on tales of spirits and ghouls and the priestesses who would mend their tortured souls. But the short time they had spent with their mother was not enough of a primer to actually be dealing with these sorts of things! Was this a trial construed by the Holy Mother herself? To test his unwavering faith after years of sullying her name with his aunt’s ridiculous Act? Nahyuta has half a mind to thank her, the other half squinting quizzically at this decision.
And here they are, alone with the spectre at last. Apollo had stated he had to go somewhere, and thus Nahyuta now sits alone in Justice Law Offices, with a spirit who probably doesn’t even know they have been able to see them the entire time they’ve been here.
Chalk this up right under a World’s Greatest list of “Most Awkward Situations”.
Well, they have to get this over with, one way or another, right?
❛ I suppose I should be giving a proper greeting to the other being in this room? ❜ Jeez, how amazingly circumstantial would it be if someone walked into Nahyuta talking to the air?
They get up from the couch, meandering to the general vicinity of the ghost --- but not so close so as to get right in their face; wouldn’t want to chase them away ( the irony of that statement isn’t lost to them ) ... ❛ And yes, to clarify, I’m speaking to you. There is no one else here, so unless I am starting to see things, you ... ❜ A pause, as they furrow their brows, opting to drop the accusatory turn their tone has adopted. They’re not interrogating a culprit. This should be ... civil. ❛ ... Do you have ... unfinished business ? ❜
Unfinished business?! Nahyuta forces themself not to press a hand to their forehead. ‘Unfinished business’, he sounds like the cliché white protagonist in a shoddy horror film. After what seems like an eternity of silence, they choke out, ❛ Apollo. You’re here because of him, right ? ❜ There we go. That’s much better. / starter for @lutumsideras
