“You’re embarrassing yourself, Militia.”
When her sister spoke in that tone of voice, it always felt like the crack of a whip on her back, and Millie’s head dropped hearing it. Their lover for the night–someone they’d picked because she was kind and warm and would take them home and give them a place to sleep–didn’t stir.
Melanie sighed, stretching out and rubbing the sleep from her eyes. “I’m going to shower. And–the purple is a good color on you, Millie.”
Millie’s lips twitched on a smile, her hands lost in the huge sleeves of their lover’s sweatshirt. She wore nothing else under it, and Mel wore nothing at all, nabbing her clothes from the floor as she made her way to the bathroom on the other side of the cramped apartment.
The moment the door was closed behind her, Millie slipped back into bed beside Yang, half-hoping she would wake up so she could see her, and half-terrified of the thought.
She was beautiful even in the dim light of the early morning, and she’d been gentle with both of them, had asked before she’d even kissed them, and continued to ask if they were okay throughout the night.
Melanie had been stunned into silence by the softness, and Millie’s heart crumpled on it, realizing only after their night together was over that this woman would never be hers. Mel didn’t let it show, but she knew Mel would miss it too.
No wonder she woke up in such a bad mood.
Suddenly out of nowhere an alarm blared like a siren, and Millie startled, the noise rousing Yang from her sleep, too. She smiled sheepishly as she fumbled for her phone on the bedside table, rolling back over and throwing an arm around Militia; thankfully, she didn’t seem at all startled that Millie had gone to sleep last night wearing nothing, but lay in bed now clothed and decent.
Well. Mostly decent.
“Sorry, didn’t wake you, did I? Forgot to turn the stupid thing off.” She yawned, and Millie smiled.
“I’ve been up for awhile. Mel is showering.”
Yang mumbled sleepily, eyes shutting for one more moment before she finally sat up, the sheets falling away from her chest. Millie didn’t even pretend not to stare; tan, chiseled abs still gleamed with sweat, and up and down her softest areas were blotchy and red with teeth marks.
Yang seemed to notice she was looking, rubbing sheepishly at the back of her neck. “I uh, I can go make us breakfast, if you guys wanna stay?”
That made Millie blink. “You–you don’t have to do that,” she said, against the better judgement of her stomach. It had been a long time since she hadn’t eaten a meal scrounged out of a trashcan.
“Well, if you change your mind, I need to make room in my fridge anyway.“
She moved out of bed, heading for her dresser to find a shirt. Millie chewed her lower lip as she admired the red trails clawed down tan back muscle, shoulders rippling and stretching the cotton of a plain black tee that stuck to Yang as tight as a second skin.
When she turned around after pulling on a pair of pajama bottoms, Millie had sat up, the tips of her ears red before Yang even noticed what she was wearing.
The blonde chuckled, settling one knee on the bed, leaning in to kiss her. Shoulders relaxing, Millie melted into it, feeling her blood singing and her skin catch fire. There wasn’t an ounce of anger or annoyance in those eyes, and she could tell this was going bad for her very, very fast.
“I’ll–I’ll go make breakfast,” Yang said again, even from the doorway unable to take her eyes off of Millie in her sweatshirt.
She almost walked backwards right into Mel, and once Yang had disappeared into the kitchen, Melanie glanced at Militia, looking resigned, but–looking almost happy about it.
“She looks almost as starstruck as you do.” Then she smiled, and Millie nudged her sister.
