5 QUESTIONS with LUVLYF _____________________________ What inspires you and motivates you? Good music! I love how good music invokes an emotion and inspires people. When you feel a certain way (or want to feel a certain way), you play a certain kind of music - happy, sad, party, etc. I am motivated to be that person who you choose to listen to when you're working out or cleaning your house. I am so inspired by music that pushes people to be the best version of themselves or the strongest version of themselves. I love how UFC fighters come out to certain songs that motivate that to feel strong, fast and have no fear. I am honestly internally motivated. I do things because I want to, not because I need to. I am always gearing to write a better song than the last. I want to be a great DJ, an awesome singer, and put on a fantastic show. Not because someone told me to, but because I want to. My favourite moment is when I finish a new song and I play it for my friend, Sara. If she likes it, she will pump her fist in the air. This is when I know I've invoked an emotion and I’ve KILLED IT! What's the best part about what you do? The adoring fans. (laughs) Just kidding. There is nothing more amazing than the energy that a crowd gives off at a show. I could be feeling exhausted and then I hit the stage - people are going crazy, having a blast and I feed off their energy. So performing…that’s the best part! People kick ass. What new projects are you working on? I’m in the middle of writing my new album. I have a wonderful team that I’m working with. I am so blessed to have such amazing people around me. To name a few…A DJ/Production duo named FKYA, Songwriter and Producer Dan Swinimer, Toronto DJ/Producer MC Flipside, Producer and Remix extraordinaire Vanic and last but not least, my Songwriting partner and Producer, Davor Vulama. All of these people are incredibly talented, have amazing music out there in the world and will be coming together to create one EPIC LUVLYF album. Does a specific state of mind or mood generate your best work? I remember when I was dating an ex-boyfriend and he'd ask me to either 1) Not to go to a writing session angry; and 2) Not to write music about him anymore…but I do remember really loving the songs that came out of those writing sessions. Sometimes I could be in a bad mood and come out with a happy and inspiring song. Other times, I could be happy and come out with a very moody track. So I would say no… I like my songs to come out organically. I enjoy the writing process being open and whatever happens… happens. I think this is when the best songwriting happens. When I wrote my new single ‘Rush’, I was going through a very heavy situation, and I was ready to write about that situation, but when I started the process, I came away with an inspirational song about love and feeling alive. I'm really happy with how that songwriting session turned out. What can we expect from you in the near future? I am releasing a new single called ‘Rush’ to Canadian Radio in August 2014. I am so proud of this song and feel so lucky to have worked with such an amazing team. This is where I do some quick shout outs… I want to give a shout out to my songwriting soul mate Davor Vulama. I’ve been working with him since I was a teenager and I love working with him. He’s amazingly talented. I also had the opportunity to work with Vanic, a fantastic producer from Vancouver, BC. He created the music for ‘Rush’ and I believe he captured the vision of the song perfectly. He has a killer new remix of Machineheart’s song 'Circles', so I suggest you all check it out.
