warning: the following backstory includes mentions of death, murder, and weapons (i.e guns) nothing too major but just want to be safe.
﹆ backstory. while hyoyeon’s originally birth family is unknown to her and many others, she was adopted as a young toddler by former marine commander, junghwa, along with who would become her adopted sister, hyeri.
hyoyeon would grow up on the peaceful island of titania with her mother and sister for several years until a pirate crew would docked at her town and begin to destroy and raid everything in their sight.
while trying to protect hyoyeon and hyeri, junghwa would be shot and killed by the pirate captain in revenge for all his pirate buddies she arrested. angered by what the pirates had done, hyoyeon went to become a navy officer.
hyoyeon originally wanted to seek revenge on the pirate that killed the only mother she knew and eventually she did manage to hunt down and capture the pirate that killed junghwa. hyoyeon managed to be promoted to captain after several more captures and became well-known in the navy.
hyoyeon was eventually sent out to capture all the pirate king’s former high ranking crew members and after catching two of the five, she set out to capture taeyeon. however, taeyeon and her crew managed to escape from hyoyeon on several occasions. this lead to many of her fellow navy officers to talk down to her, saying “how can she be a navy captain if she can’t even catch a that damned female captain.”
while planning another attack on the atë crew, hyoyeon witnessed navy soldiers taking food and alcohol from townspeople using holding the fact that if it wasn’t for the navy “your town have been raided by pirates years ago.” hyoyeon soon realized that maybe the navy wasn’t as great as she thought it was and without any warning decided to quit the navy and return home.
if was after she returned home, did the atë crew dock at titania where hyoyeon officially met taeyeon. hyoyeon asked to join the crew to which taeyeon accepted and hyoyeon became the ship’s weapons master

hyoyeon trains all the new crew members which makes them feel like they are more in the navy than in a pirate crew. hyoyeon only does this because she wants all the members to know how to defend themselves against any person or weapon.
hyoyeon loves to drink and often challenges any and all members to a drinking challenge against her.
hyoyeon’s sister owns a small orange farm which was originally their mother’s before she died.
hyoyeon originally asked to join because she wanted to make amends with taeyeon and the rest of the crew, but stayed because she loved being on the ocean.
