Steel and Bone
Mengie sat, telling her mom about the things going on in town lately and laughing, tail swishing this way and that as her mom’s eyes crinkled in amusement. Sitting by the field of golden flowers, she ran her hands carefully over the petals when she spotted movement on the far side of the cavern. Shooting her mom a worried look, she trotted closer to the tunnel, yellow eyes glowing slightly in the dim light. “Hello? Is someone here?”
