I wanna say something about your post. Firstly, I agree 100% and I commend you for not being too much of a wimp to put your opinion out there, hah. Second, I'm not sure if it's relevant at all, but it's sometimes harder for females to write as males because they have less -- u, experience as one, if that makes sense? Some girls have no issue with it, but some do, like me for example. Which is exactly why the female preferring to play a female is perfectly normal in my mind.
I don't find it all that hard to play males. I've done it before. I just don't actually get much inspiration or muse for male characters all that often. And to be perfectly frank; being a good writer is not about being diverse in who’s view you write from, it's about how well you can delve into the psyche of your chosen view, and how well you convey that to readers.
Trying new things is great, and stepping out of your comfort zone is a good thing, don't get me wrong. But lets not dictate what makes a person good by that.
