Stay With Me- A Sherlock Fanfic. Prompt from imjohnlocked
((This is the Sherlock fanfiction for the prompt from imjohnlocked. I'm so sorry it took so long. The prompt was "Texts or a phone call between Sherlock and John set after TEH." I DID NOT WRITE ALL OF THIS. IT IS A ROLEPLAY. I wrote the Sherlock's texts and parts from his POV. My good friend luxrayluv wrote John's texts and the parts from his POV. Go check her blog out, she's amazing. So here it is. WARNING: ANGST))
AU. What if Moriarty hadn't come back
Six long months have passed since Sherlock was sent away. The baby was born, and John has adjusted to life with Mary. He fulfills his need for danger by becoming a paramedic. He barely thinks about Sherlock anymore, until one day, he receives a text from an unknown number.
John, I'm so sorry. –SH
Sherlock? Is that really you? –JW
How is Mary? How's your daughter? –SH
Fine. And hopefully out of danger, since we don't have a murder loving sociopath hanging around. –JW
Good. It will stay that way. –SH
I wouldn't say it's too good. After all, I did lose my best friend. –JW
I know. And I'm so sorry. –SH
Sorry for what? You have nothing to be sorry for. –JW
I'm sorry to leave you again. –SH
At least I knew you were going to leave us this time. -JW
I won't see you again, John. That's why I'm texting you. –SH
To say goodbye. –SH
Goodbye? Sherlock, you can't be serious. –JW
Wish I wasn't. Shame, really. There were still unsolved cases. –SH
So you really mean it this time? The game is officially over for you? –JW
I wouldn't lie to you again. –SH
I find that hard to believe. Sorry. -JW I won't ask you to believe it. I've cried wolf far too many times. Just humor me, will you? –SH
Why? You bored again? Not a single case to solve in exile, huh? –JW
John, listen to me. This isn't a joke. Please, just listen to me. This is important. –SH
I'm listening. What made you think I wasn't? Wait, no. Don't answer that. Just, say what you need to say. –JW
John, delivering your best man speech was possibly the hardest thing I've ever had to do. –SH
Yeah, as you've mentioned time and time again. Sherlock, please, just cut to the chase. I have things to do, and as much as I love hearing from you, you really should stop stalling. –JW
What did you think, John, when I was saying goodbye to you at the airport? What did you think I was going to say? Because it definitely wasn't that Sherlock is a girl’s name. –SH
I really had no idea, Sherlock. I was too upset, you know, losing my best mate and all, to really think hard about what eccentric things you might have said. Is that what you wanted to talk about? –JW
Yes. I'm an insufferable git, but you're going to keep texting me anyway, aren't you? You're far too curious. –SH
I never said I'd stop, did I? And it doesn't take the world's only consulting detective to know that I'm curious. Who wouldn't be? Now, go on. –JW
Right then. The fact remains, I left for two years to divert the snipers aimed on you, Lestrade, and Mrs Hudson. I was nervous and jealous when I found you were going to get married. I covered it up, folded napkins. I was nicer, I made friends, I made jokes. I ate, I was even polite to Anderson. I made my vow, and stuck to it, even when it landed me in a hospital. I stuck around for the endlessly boring babble once you found out about Mary, and then shot Magnussen to save her, all of which is completely out of character for a prat like me. Now do you really think I did all this for goodwill and sacrifice? Of course I didn't, I'm a high functioning sociopath, remember? I'm selfish. I had an ulterior motive. Now why do you think I did it, John? Think. Why? –SH
Sherlock, I'm in no mood for games. You know I'm not exactly one for on-the-spot thinking. I wasn't paying much attention to your sudden change of heart, considering I had a wedding to plan. Not that you'd understand, being a 'high functioning sociopath' and all. You said sentiment is only displayed by the losing side, remember? And you never lose. No, not the great William Sherlock Scott Holmes. But listen. If you really want me to know, just tell me. –JW
John, I need you to promise me you will stay with me. No matter what I say, you'll forgive me and move on. Don't dwell on the past, but don't forget me. I'm saying this because you are the only man who could possibly put up with me. –SH
Stay with you? Sherlock, of course I'll promise to do that. It's the least I can do. You did save my life, and Mary's. I won't dwell in the past, either. Those 2 years were by far the hardest of my life, and I've tried not to think of them anyways. Please, continue. –JW
I've been shot. I'm dying. I might as well say it, finally, before it's to late. –SH
You're dying?! Sherlock, really, this is no time for jokes. If you were dying, you wouldn't text me. Don't scare me like this, you prat! –JW
It's not a joke. I had a SAT phone ready, just in case. Who else would I text? –SH
Sherlock, for god's sake! Stop this. Stop this right now! Don't scare me like this! What did I do to deserve that? –JW
I'm so sorry, John. This is selfish of me. I had to hear from you one last time. –SH
Sherlock, if you're telling the truth (which you hopefully aren't), I can't say I'd find this selfish. –JW
Then I'll say it. –SH
Please do. Let it out, whatever 'it' is. –JW
John Watson, I love you. –SH
God, Sherlock. You've really taken it too far this time. Why do you insist on playing with my emotions?! –JW
John, I'm sorry. It hurts, and I can't hold on much longer. I am telling the truth this time, and I hope you can forgive me for putting you through this. –SH
Sherlock. Please, say this is all some cruel joke. Please. You can't be dying. You've cheated death before. You can do it again. Not now. Not after what you just told me. Because I have something I want to tell you too. –JW
What? –SH
Sherlock Holmes, I love you t-
John's phone died abruptly. He stared at the screen, aghast. Filled with an overwhelming sadness, he hurled the offensive device across the room, sinking to the floor, dry sobs racking his throat.
Sherlock lay weakly on the floor, using all of his strength to stay conscious and ignore the throbbing pain in his side. He stared eagerly at the phone, each passing minute lingering in the air. He waited, wondering when John would respond. Around him was absolute silence, broken only by the soft noise of his shallow breathing.
John? –SH
Are you there? –SH
Please, John. –SH
You promised you'd stay with me. –SH
