Wish for a Wish

“Make a wish.”  

“Okay.” She closes her eyes.

A pause.

“... Did you actually make one?”

“Yeah.”

“Tell me.” The explorer demands with a smirk.

“No. If I tell you, it won’t come true.” She tilts her chin upwards defiantly, a small smirk forming on her lips back at him. Didn’t he know the rules? “Plus, it’s too cheesy and you’re going to poke fun.”

“Awww, c’mon, Lux. You really think you’re going to scare me away with your wish? I’ll tell you what I wished for. A wish for a wish.”

She ponders this carefully; she truly wants to know what he wished for, but that would risk embarrassing herself and perhaps messing up the wish, if she were truly superstitious.

He has asked her this time and time again, and she always refused to answer or gave a generic response. The Lady never wanted to confess that her wishes always had something to do with him and they had come this far.

“Fine. But I warned you.” She sighs after a brief moment, but Ezreal thinks it felt like forever.

“...I... I wished for us to be happy together.” Lux bites her lip after answering and can’t help but look away. He blinks.

“Well, this is awkward.”

Her heart stops. She knew she should have kept it a secret from him.

“...I told you it was cheesy--”

“No, Lux. I had the same exact one.” He chuckles awkwardly, shifting his eyes away from her. She’s not used to this side of him; he always holds an air of superiority with his smug smirks and self-satisfied attitude.

“...R-really?” She can feel the heat rise within her cheeks. The embarrassment and surprise is too much. They both look away from each other, trying to hide their flushed faces.

But she remembers when he had first asked that question. She remembers that she couldn’t even answer, because he was staring at the sky and not at her. He wasn’t looking at her and she so wished that he would. That he wanted to be with her. And yet, here they finally were.

Perhaps some wishes do come true.
