Covid-19 At Home Proposal Ideas
Lockdown has really put a dampener on things, and many people are thinking twice about going ahead with their marriage proposal.
We don't think proposals should be put on hold, instead, we want to share some of our favourite at-home proposal ideas that you can easily do for yourself.
A TRAVEL THEMED PROPOSAL⠀ ⠀
Travel plans may have been put on hold for a while, but how about doing a travel themed proposal at home?⠀ ⠀
You will be surprised at what props you can find around the house. Travel guides, books, maps etc. You can include photos, postcards and souvenirs that you collected on your previous travels. ⠀ ⠀
If you were thinking of going to Sri Lanka for Eid (a popular one for us expats I know), why not bring Sri Lanka to you? You can prepare a delicious Sri Lankan curry, set up a beach area at home with sand (don’t tell me you can’t get your hands on some sand), scatter some rose petals, light some candles, and get a couple of coconuts to sip from while putting a sunset scene on the TV before proposing Sri Lankan beach bar in your living room ⠀ ⠀
This is a proposal we planned for Todd and Christine to give you some inspiration. We used old travel photos, a map of where they had been with their initials printed over it and wrote Todd’s favourite memories of Christine from these holidays. ⠀

A CAKE PROPOSAL⠀ ⠀
Who has been spending more time than ever before in the kitchen?⠀ We know that we have!! And, OH MY- we have become quite the baker. ⠀ ⠀
Why not put your skills to the test and propose with an impressive cake or a selection of ‘Marry Me’ cupcakes? She will appreciate your efforts so much- even if they are a little crispier or drier than they should be ⠀ ⠀
If you live together, then you can prepare them over a few days so she doesn’t expect anything (it may mean a few early mornings or late nights). ⠀ If you don’t live together- how about getting it delivered to her doorstep whilst being on a Zoom call at the same time? ⠀ ⠀
You can even go the extra mile and plant the ring in the cake- make sure you keep it in the box so you don’t eat it by mistake.
Follow @crumbsanddoilies for easy, step by step cake baking instructions that are tried and tested by our team (red velvet cupcakes are a MUST) ⠀ Dubai’s amazing @sugaholicbakeshop have cake decorating kits for sale for you to decorate your creation and to write the all-important question- easy peasy. ⠀ ⠀
Here are are few ideas of cake proposals that we planned for some of our lovely couples to give you some inspiration.⠀
A MUSICAL PROPOSAL⠀ ⠀ ⠀
Here is another proposal idea that you can do from home that won’t cost an arm and a leg (or anything at all). ⠀ ⠀
How about hiring a musician to serenade you both via Zoom? ⠀ ⠀
The amazing Khalil aka @dubaisinger has been popping up at our proposals since 2014 and he goes down a treat. ⠀
We have included a few photos of Khalil doing his thing at some of our proposals. Here he is serenading our couples with everything from Disneys ‘Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid, to Bruno Mars ‘Marry You’- what a versatile legend. Something like this would be so memorable and romantic as he sings all her favourite songs ⠀ ⠀
For a unique idea that won’t cost you a Dirham- how about downloading a piano app and learning to play (and maybe even sing) her favourite song, before getting down on one knee to propose ⠀
We hope that you find some of our ideas useful. If you decide to propose at home, then we would love to hear your proposal story x
