Our next LW Crush feature is Anita Mechler! Anita is a Project Manager / Archivist for the Black Metropolis Research Consortium at the University of Chicago Library. Though many of her duties are not strictly library-related, she believes that once you become a librarian, you are always a librarian. She is a focused and passionate writer (just before the deadline) and a local storyteller who enjoys Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries while bathing, cycling with her bike team, and being ignored by her adorable cat, Michi.
Here’s what Anita’s nominator had to say about her:
Anita's style is unapologetic, bold, and glamorous with a little grit, just like her! Everytime you see her she has something unique on and usually it has a story behind it. When she isn't a badass in the archives, she's writing and storytelling, riding long distances on her bike, or on some kind of adventure. She's been my library crush since the first time we met and she asked if I wanted to meet up for cocktails in Downtown Disney at ALA Anaheim.
She's a former derby queen and the kind of lady you would want to have in your corner in a street fight.
Anita’s nominator also wanted to know: What are your style influences? Why are you so gorgeous?!
I love vintage styles especially from the 1920s-1950s. I adore the Academy Award-winning designer Edith Head (who designed high-fashion dresses with pockets!) and all of her muses like Bette Davis, Hedy Lamarr, Grace Kelly, Mae West, Gloria Swanson, the list goes on. My mother and abuela heavily influenced my style growing up. They showed me how to pick out quality materials from thrifty settings and create my own customized look with a bit of creativity, thread, and sparkle. You can thank my ancestors for the gorgeousness, as I do everyday.
