This was one of the rare times in the Soothsayer's life when she was struck speechless. Here, she had thought that the peacock standing before her had perished after the battle at the harbor-- if not by the cannon flattening him, then by drowning.
(Perhaps-- she thought upon further retrospection-- her grief blinded her from the truth of the matter.)
