- sypnosis: in which, after living for many centuries — shoto todoroki finally found his mate given by the moon, who is a human.
werewolf!au
shoto never believed in love. throughout these years, his parents’ union were nothing of a good example. endless fights, screams, and cries were all that he could hear. no love. no smiles. and no laughter. it was all too much to bear that all he could do was cry quietly and do what he was told.
shoto never believed in love. he was a kid when his mother poured boiling hot water on his left eye and witnessed her slowly succumb to insanity with a crazed look on her face. thrown into an asylum with no mercy.
shoto never believed in love. he focused all his life to training to become the greatest warrior, the strongest out of all the lycans, per his father’s selfish goals.
shoto never believed in love. until midoriya changed his life and showed him what he's been missing all these time in his life. exposing him to the wonders of life and eventually gathered the courage to face his mother again.
but even so, shoto still didn't know what love is. not because he refused to, but simply because he doesn't have the time to do so. he doesn't have the time for love when he lived in the era where war and bloodshed were possible to break out anytime soon.
he fought in the war between the werewolves and vampires, he fought in the great werewolf war, he fought against rogues and hunters, and most of all fought to protect the kingdom.
it wasn't long enough until they reached 18, the age were beasts find their mates given by the moon. he didn't know what to feel about mates given his parents' marriage, he was scared at the thought of being bound to someone. no... he was scared that it wouldn't work out in the end and he couldn't possibly handle the heartbreak and depression of losing his mate. so he kept to himself and tried to avoid meeting other people, but that didn't last long as jealousy started to swell on his chest.
he felt jealous when he saw his friends and classmates happy and heart filled with joy with their mates by their side. he felt jealous when he witnesses true love blooming between two beasts. he felt jealous when he sees his friends mark their mate, bound to be together forever, their union blessed by the moon goddess under the full moon. and he wanted that too.
he wanted to be happy as them, he wanted to feel loved, he wanted to have someone accompany him with his runs in the forest, he wanted to lay hi mark and claim, he wanted the blessings of the moon goddess, he wanted to spend his eternal life with someone who loves him and who he loves unconditionally.
but no matter how hard he prayed, he never got to meet his mate.
who was he kidding? of course the moon goddess wouldn't bless him. it was rare for lycans to ever find their mates, it would take centuries or even a millennia to ever find their other half.
he thinks it's unfair. midoriya found his mate at the very moment he turned 18. kaminari found his mate when he turned 18. iida found his mate when he turned 18. tokoyami found his mate when he turned 18. heck, even bakugo found his mate when he turned 21!
but even so, he waited. and waited. and waited.
centuries passed and he still hadn't found his mate. other lycans his age gave up on finding their mates and resorted to have a chosen mate, but shoto valued the importance of mates so he patiently waited. he didn't entertain other girls, he didn't date, and he didn't have sex because he felt like he was cheating and betraying his mate. he would blame himself to death for not waiting.
but even as he wait, he still couldn't find you and soon he was starting to lose hope.
he trudged in the busy streets in disappointed and hurt, his heart aching painfully in his chest. it had been a millennia and he wasn't sure if he could wait for long, he felt like he's dying. it was too painful.
maybe the moon goddess didn't want to give him a mate, maybe the moon goddess never intended to give him a mate, maybe he was deemed unworthy of one, unworthy of lo-
bump!
he paused as he bumped into someone and was going to apologize when he caught a scent that made his beast go overdrive and heard a sweet, flustered voice laced with nervousness.
"oh my god- i'm so so sorry! that must've felt hot, gosh i'm such a klutz!" you exclaimed as you took out your handkerchief and tried to wipe the coffee stain off his white button up shirt.
"oh no... it stained. i'm really, really sorry! i promise i'll pay you!" you continued to apologize but he didn't pay attention to your ramblings as he stared at you and examined your features.
he didn't even care about the hot coffee, he didn't even care that his shirt was stained, he didn't even care about the money you insist on giving him. why would such trivial things matter when he finally found his mate?
"sir? is everything ok?" you asked, worried that he wasn't responding to you and you looked at his eyes. your eyes widened as you saw his dilated pupils, so blown out that you could only see a thin ring of his blue and grey irises. you blushed as he stared at you with adoration, as if he just found a miracle... a blessing.
then you started to appreciate how handsome he looked and how he looked like a cat.
"yes... m'fine" he squeaked, cursing on how his voice pitched high.
but you didn't reply as you continued to stare at him, something is drawing you to him. like it's pulling you, and it's strong. it's strange that you felt this way to a stranger you just met, it's scary but somehow you don't hate it.
"todoroki shoto" he held out a hand and you took a brief look at it. your parents taught you to never give your name to strangers but oh well, who cares anyway? you have your priorities damn straight.
"l/n y/n" and you shook his hand as racked he his brain for any pick up lines to get your number, and the pickup lines that kaminari told him couldn't be useful until now. he just have to try to remember that conversation from a hundred years ago.
