Lycanthorn Review

First free game of the year. Well I was playing Ignis Unversia but that’s as dull as watching paint dry. So here’s something that’s actually good from the maker of the Shrine games about a werewolf fighting vampires.

Gameplay:

While it is a first-person game, I struggle to call it a shooter. Sure you have throwing knives and later a lighting rod that fires 3 projectiles, your main weapon is a axe and all non boss enemies die in one hit. Maybe a platformer?

Anyway. There are 8 levels where you look for keys, kill enemies and fight a boss at the end. Easy right. Well, you can only have 20 ammo, there can only be gotten from broken candle stands and there’s only 1 health pickup hidden in a level before a boss fight.

I did find a exploit for almost every boss except the last two which is if don’t enter the boss room, you can pelt them with knives and get out of the way before the door closes.

Presentation:

I think the maker as their own art style as it’s the exact same retro graphics as the  Shrine games. Maybe even more pixelly with wall textures. There’s even a head boppin OST to listen as you fight your way through the levels.

Verdict:

I wonder is this will appear on steam like Shrine and Shrine 2. It is good and kind of unique.
