It's the third book in the Lydiard Chronicles, a series that takes the reader from the reign of Charles I through the dissatisfaction with that reign to the rise of Oliver Cromwell to this volume which covers the regicide of Charles I through the Republic and ultimately the Restoration of Charles II. . Whew! Lots of history! . The series is based on the author's family history and I am only sorry I hadn't the opportunity to also read the first two books.
