jukebox coming your way! this is a meet-cute from a wip i've been slowly working on:
And then the door burst open. The women looked up.
“Hey, sorry the train got delayed ‘cause someone fainted or whatever,” he exclaimed, bulldozering through the room with a million things on his person. A big backpack, guitar case, notebooks in hand, shoes untied and on the verge of stumbling. Nothing to comment on, until Julie reached his face. Her stomach dropped. “I’m Luke— oh, shit.”
Apparently, New York City was a small town.
“Charming,” Andi uttered. “Julie, this is Luke Patterson. He’ll be helping you with your album. Today’s to see if you’re a good match. Use this time well.” Her phone rang and she stood up. “Keep me posted. Ciao.”
The two watched as the manager walked out, the door softly falling shut behind her.
Luke chuckled, jabbing his thumb over his shoulder at the closed door. “She’s something, huh.”
“And you’re the girl from the diner!” he replied, eyes delighted. “I knew I recognised you from somewhere! Just couldn’t put a face to the voice!” He made an exploding sound, mimicking it with his hands, and then dazzled her with a broad smile. “Small fucking world.”
Julie wasn’t sure how to respond. For one, she didn’t think it was possible in a city of nine million for paths to cross again. And two… this was the guy they assigned her with? She didn't doubt his skills, Andi liked him for a reason, but she'd been expecting someone more… like her.
“But again, sorry,” he continued, “I know I acted like a weirdo the other day. That wasn’t cool. My friends roasted the shit out of me.”
“Um… thank you,” she trailed.
“I got another listen at your music and Alma Pura? Best EP of the last couple of years, I swear to you. That juicy guitar riff in the third song? It’s stuck in my head. It’s stuck!”
The man rambled as he unpacked his stuff on the table by the mixing desk. It seemed like he brought his entire life with him, as though he could leave the city at any given moment. Julie took this moment to properly assess him, something she hadn't done back at the diner. His brown hair curled at the ends, his eyes resembled sea-glass, his stature lean yet strong. He didn’t wear that odd cut-off shirt now, but a plain black t-shirt instead.
“So,” he breathed and plopped down on the desk chair. “Whatcha got so far? What’re we working on today?”
