One of the things I love about older picture books is their dedication to the classical narrative arc, with interesting characters, adventures, and a clear beginning, climax and ending. This contrasts with a lot of more recent books that I've seen, about which one niece said to me rather memorably, "There's not much story to this story, is there?" 😂 🐊🐊🐊 Well, there's certainly plenty of story in Bernard Waber's classic "Lyle, Lyle Crocodile" (1965). The second book in this series about the sweet, city-dwelling reptile, it is the first real adventure of Lyle's after his introduction in "The House on East 88th Street" (1962).
